  • WSU at ORU (3/21, 6:30 CST)

Shocks head to Tulsa to take on a familiar foe on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see how Steele handles the staff with two midweek games ahead of Texas Tech coming to town.

ORU is 12-7 (RPI of 78) and is coming off a weekend sweep of North Dakota State to open conference play. Their resume is similar to WSU's - they have done a good job beating terrible teams (10-0 vs. RPI 200+) and have struggled against everyone else. The Golden Eagles' best win is a home victory over DBU in Tulsa (the Patriots took 2 of 3).

Any news lately on Segal? Seems a few weeks ago the word was that he might be available in, well, a few weeks. Are we still in a holding pattern or is there a more definite timetable?

GoShockers.com's Game Notes list Tommy Barnhouse (1-0, 4.00 ERA) as tonight's probable starter.

ORU draws 1st blood with a solo homer in the bottom of the 1st.

BTW, I like the configuration of ORU's stadium. Nice looking facility.

Barnhouse didn't actually look too bad with the exception of the center cut fastball that was launched out the park by the 2-hole hitter.

Alex Jackson, playing CF, made a very nice catch on a drive to left center in the ORU 2nd to save an extra base hit.

Alex then led off the Shocker 3rd with his only drive to the wall in left center for a double.

Dayton unable to move Alex over to 3rd base as he strikes out.

Then Jordan Boyer grounded to 3rd who looked Alex back, threw Boyer at at 1st with Alex breaking for 3rd and getting thrown out there for the old 5-3-5 double play.

In the bottom of the 3rd Barnhouse got a fast ball up on the inner half and the ORU 9-hole hitter drove it out of the park to RF to put ORU up 2-0.

Bohm drives in Katzfey with an RBI single. 1st and 3rd, still just 1 out for the Shox.

            Vickers up for WSU.

              Huh, I'll be darned.

Safety squeeze to tie it and Vickers executes. 2-2.

Troutwine busts the slump, 2 out RBI double drives in the go-ahead run. 3-2 WSU.

Good piece of hitting by Bohm to go with the pitch and not try and do to much. Right after I comment they struggle to execute, they prove me wrong.

Shocks got some good swings in the 4th. Troutwine has hit the ball hard twice. He was robbed of a double in his 1st AB when the ORU 3B speared his one hopper down the line and threw him at at 1B. Alex Jackson has had a couple of good AB's.

Barnhouse has given up the 2 solo homers but is throwing strikes and not giving up much of anything else.

Yep. His 1st AB he tried to pull a pitch at the knees on the outside corner and grounded out to the SS. Good to see Alec make an adjustment.

Barnhouse has given up 6 hits. Unfortunately they have been 3 HRs, 1 triple and 1 double.

                        3-4 Bot 5

Yeah, a few too many fastballs up and leaking out over the middle of the plate. The ORU lefties taking advantage of the wind blowing out to right although all 3 of their home runs were very solidly struck.

Only 4 strikeouts in 6 innings for the Shocks. Shocks seem to be getting some good swings tonight. Perhaps the bats are starting to awake a bit.

Love how these 'little' ORU players hit.
