Derek Shaver is a 2019 SS/RHP, 2B, 3B with a 6-3 185 lb. frame from Grand Junction, CO who attends Grand Junction. Large frame with broad shoulders and present strength. Ran a 7.03 sixty-yard dash. Primary shortstop with fundamentally sound, athletic footwork while surrounding the baseball. Created good momentum while working through transition with clean glove actions. Primarily released from a three-quarters slot but showed the ability to throw from multiple arm angle while on the run with accuracy. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance. Shifts into contact well with linear lower half actions. Very direct hand path to contact with a naturally leverage barrel plane through extension. Stays balanced throughout and showed the barrel control to manipulate bat head and work to all fields with jump off the barrel. Also pitched utilizing a balanced leg lift delivery. Compact, quick arm action from a three-quarters slot. Fastball had good sink with run in the low to mid 80's, topped at 84 miles per hour. Slider had 10/4 shape with tight spin and late, hard tilt to glove side in the mid 70's. Also showed a very deceptive arm speed with a changeup offering that had sink and fade to arm side in the mid 70's as well. Project able tools on each side of the plate. Good student. Named to the 2017 Rocky Mountain Showcase Top Prospect List.

Blake Treinen is absolutely slamming the door for Oakland as their closer. A 0.84 ERA, 22 saves and if he isn't on the All-Star team a federal investigation is warranted.
I noticed he is from Wichita and went to S.Dakota State. Was there any interest from the old regime in recruiting him? Did he grow up a Shocker fan and wanted to attend WSU? Was he a standout performer in HS or just a case of someone who really developed late and SDSU took a chance on him?

          Thank you.

          That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

Yeah, he went to Osage High in NE KS. Started college career at Baker, then transferred to Arkansas but didnt make the team. Finally ended up at S Dakota St after a summer pitching camp. Doubt he was ever recruited by Kemnitz.

ShockRef I remember the name. Will have to do some research, but as I recall he didnt play HS in Wichita. I think he wound up at Arkansas then South Dakota St.

Interesting that he retweeted Tyler Davis announcement he is leaving the WSU program. Not sure how to read it except that the next HC of WSU baseball will likely have an empty cupboard.

ShockTalk - I haven't any clue. I can tell you that Casey Sunseri and Colby Wyers both play for the same summer league team, Woodlands Express, which Tyler Davis also previously played for. I've met a man down here who is friends with Todd Butler, so it's possible that there is some kind of connection that brought these guys to WSU that has either broken down or shed light on more details about Butler's future.

Thanks, TxShox. Probably not Butler's "status" as that has kind of been known for a while. However, if Davis couldn't go pro after next year (assuming Butler's last year) and didn't want to be involved with a new staff, that is very possible and him not being here changed Wyers and Sunseri's mind (although that's a little weak). If Davis left for a different reason, whatever that was could have had an impact on the others to change their minds as well given their connections.

Butler knows he's a cooked goose. This is what happens when you let a lame duck die out without canning him sooner.

Boatright is such an idiot. Oh, and Sexton is a bigger one.

Most likely to get beaned early in his competitive career:

Good swing though. Go ahead and sign him up to the Shocks class of 2030.

Austin Roccaforte is another middle infielder who drew attention in Arizona. He ran a 6.88, was confident defensively with good actions and hands, and he showed a line drive stroke with good acceleration through contact.

Click on Austin's name in blue above for some video of Austin.

Shockers announce the sgining of 9 recruits. 3 infielders, 2 outfielders and 4 right-handed pitchers. 7 high school players and 2 Jucos.

                  https://goshockers.com/news/2018/11/...s-of-2019.aspx

Shockers continue to be a little light on left handed pitching. We have 2 lefties on this years roster -- RS Sophomore Alex Segal and Freshmen Cal Carver and Reece Koon.

After reading the synopsis on each player is seems to be a pretty solid recruiting class on paper. Of course it is always a bit difficult to know how individual players' games will translate to D-1 college baseball.

Welcome to Shocker Nation guys. Hope things go well for you all.

I see we are back to recruiting only players over 6 feet tall. Not necessarily a bad thing, I just hope we aren't excluding people based on height.

An additional 9 Class of 2019 recruits (all high shcoolers) have been announced.

The class does include 2 lefty pitchers which is good.

Plus one player that is well under 6 foot tall:View image on Twitter
                      Wichita St. Baseball@GoShockersBSB
Austin Roccaforte, a 5-7 infielder from Tomball, Texas, has signed with Shocker Baseball

So we have an announced recruiting class of 18 players and a roster that has 4 seniors and 7 juniors (none of whom are slam dunk draft picks) and 3 redshirt sophomores (of which maybe Alex Segal might be a likely draft pick especially if he has a good season this year).
