Thanks guys, I thought it was just unearned if it was actually the result of an error. Didn't realize it was anything after what should've been the third out. Learn something new every day.

Very true, Shockerman.
If they can do it, so can WSU (as, in fact, WSU already did do it once upon a happier time, and in somewhat the same "back to the wall" game after game fashion). Now, whether WSU has the program leadership in place to regain that past glory is another matter. But it's certainly possible.
Edit: By the way, Shockda, your example from today is why I always take ERAs with a grain of salt, especially in the college game where a pretty high proportion of the runs scored are technically unearned. A pitcher could retire the first two hitters in an inning, have an error made behind him on a routine grounder, lose his command in frustration and give up five HRs in a row -- and all six runs would be "unearned." Everyone would know whose "fault" the six runs were, and it wouldn't be the guy who booted the grounder -- but the pitcher would still get off scot-free statistically.Last edited by WSUwatcher; June 30, 2016, 06:50 PM.
