During the delays at the state track meet today, I listened to Lutz and Koyie Hill talk about the current status of WSU baseball, and how it has become irrelevant. Boatright was coming on next, but I wasn't able to listen to his comments. Did anybody hear what he said about the current state of WSU baseball and the plan that is in place to fix it?

Well that was about a worthless, pathetic excuse I've heard in quite a while. That doesn't sound like "media speak" to me either. I think he's 100% serious in his thoughts, which makes the situation all the more disturbing. Especially the last part of the segment, where he stated the length of the contract was NOT a factor in his decision to stick with Butler. Good Lord, this is hopeless.

IADDB said at least twice that it is unacceptable yet we are sticking with the coach. Maybe I am missing something but to me that shows it is acceptable. If it was truly unacceptable, we would be making a change.

IADDB made another statement that stuck with me. When talking about where we were before HCTB, IADDB said we needed to remember that WSU baseball "... was not in a good place either for the last 6 or 7 years." Let me just help IADDB with a comparison of the last 7 years before HCTB took over.

MVC regular season finishes the 7 years before HCTB:
1st place - 3 times
2nd place - 2 times
3rd place - 2 times
Overall record the 7 years before HCTB - 284-164 (.634)
Post season the 7 years before HCTB - 3 MVC Championships, 4 Regional appearances, 2 Super Regionals.

MVC finishes with HCTB:
4th place - 2 times
6th place - 1 time
Overall record with HCTB - 78-98 (.443)

Don't worry Darron, we haven't forgot where we were...

Some simple math shows that HCTB needs to be 206-66 over the next four seasons to get us back to "not in a good place." That works out to an average of 51-16, a regional every year and a super every other year. Good luck meeting those expectations just to reach "not in a good place"...

Pretty clear that our hitting is trending up and our pitching is trending down. Seems very odd that pitching and defense used to be WSU's name brand, now it's gone to crap. For those who believe in Butler and want to take the high road, you sunshine pumpers are just having an average pitching team away from getting back into the Regionals. Assuming our hitting continues to trend upward, this may be the reason Butler is still around. The higher ups responsible for keeping Butler are telling themselves no way can the pitching get any worse. It can only go up from here.

Well stated, 89. If Boatright meant by "not in a good place" that WSU baseball from 2007-13 was in decline compared to, say, 1987-1993, he's certainly right. But it hadn't been in THAT place for quite a while, so just what was he comparing it to? Yes, the program was headed downhill -- but the slide really didn't pick up speed until recruiting slipped in the latter part of the first decade of this century. So now, by some measures, recruiting has improved but the slide downhill has become a plummet. What about that justifies continuing with what's happening at this point??

Time for a real, serious full-time permanent AD to be installed and for him to take on the baseball challenge in a way that Boatright is unwilling to do.

It may be as simple as IADDB was referring to the relationship between ADES and HCGS - not even referring to statistics.
