I think this is an incredibly wide open tournament. Any of the 8 could win it maybe.

I have to admit that I got so frustrated with things that I checked out of college baseball (and college sports in general) in early April and just started caring again in the last 7-10 days.

Wichita State has a chance to atone for their season and maybe get a free trip to Stillwater. Lots to play for. Wish it was in a cooler place than Terre Haute because I might make the trip. Only way I can see going there is if the Bears make it to the final.

I have been going to the Valley tournament since 1978 (it was played in Omaha that year, BTW). I thought I might actually miss it this year, but I think I am gong to go. I will miss the first day, but be there for the rest. I can't break my string.

I would go in a second, but Terre Haute is just too far to watch bad baseball. I wish the tourney could be in Wichita every year, but all of a sudden the valley idiots want to be fair and give every school a chance to bid and host. If we're going to play that game, let's do it for basketball too. Just my thoughts.

Ok, enough ranting, back to the topic at hand. I think the Shox might steal 1 game, but probably no more than that.

This pretty much sums up the entire 2016 season. We are a capable team at times and have offensive talent but we have no consistency in any phase of the game. 3 of our top 4 hitters combined have as many strikeouts as they do hits. We have a closer with a 7.39 ERA that is just as likely to strikeout the side as walk them loaded. We will make a good play in the field and then overthrow the cutoff or throw to the wrong bag. We send runners from 3rd when we should hold them and hold them when they could jog in. We pull effective pitchers because we know they are only good one time through the order but send starters back out even though everyone knows they are done.

My prediction for the week is anything from 0-2 to MVC champs. I doubt the latter will come to fruition based on the fact we haven't won more than 2 in a row all season, our weak road record, and the fact we are 9-12 against this field, but at this point I don't think anything would shock me. I fully expect us to knock around a team's ace with a 1.09 ERA and then SO 9 times against a guy with 16.1 innings pitched for the season sporting a 6.83 ERA.

Yes, this bunch has transcended being "shockers." Lewis and Tyler have both shown that they're capable of pitching well enough to get WSU through the first two games, and who knows what might happen then (although history certainly doesn't point to a three-game win streak). I think one win is probably most likely, although I can also see the Shocks reaching the championship. If that happens, I suppose all bets are off -- baseball is the ultimate "any given day" sport -- but try as I might, I can't pump enough sunshine to consider a championship a very realistic possibility.

Tanner only hit .139 in 36 ABs in MVC play so that isn't a big surprise. I agree with questioning Troutwine and Tyler but I imagine Troutwine got it because of his offense, not his defense.

The WSU freshman position players on that list are all in the Top 10 in BA in league games only. So, as far as the league knows, they are good players. Who knows how good they will be going forward.
