Only giving up 2 runs despite allowing 11 hits is the epitome of a hard hat effort by Cody Tyler. Not necessarily a Rembrandt but plenty good enough. Shows a great competitive toughness to do that and seemed like it may have carried over to the offense as well.
Shocks certainly needed some sun to shine on their butts and you got to give the young men credit for getting the job done. The real challenge for this team has been to sustain the occasional glimpses of competency. We'll see what happens. You know MSU will be a highly motivated tomorrow.
This is a great opportunity for the Shocks to show that they aren't as bad as they have led us to believe. I don't have a great deal of confidence that they can do it but I suppose stranger things have happened.

We're in 3rd, but we really have a great shot at second. Evansville is only ahead of us - oops - I mean the Shox- because Evansville has played the Shox. Once Evansville meets some real competition, they'll drop like a rock.
Second place, here we - I mean the Shox - come. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Seriously, nice game by the Shocks -- a Friday win by someone other than Schwanke. Who were those guys, Sundance?

BTW, one helluva catch by Tanner Kirk ranging well into CF from his 2B position. I think that was in the Top of the 8th. It was an Alcides Escobar-worthy effort by Tanner.
Cody Tyler was terrific but he had to be a freaking magician to make it past the 1st few innings. MSU collected 7 of the 11 hits in the 1st, 2nd and 4th innings and they collected them early in the inning. Somehow Cody managed to hold the Bears to only 1 run during the stretch.
In the 1st the Bears went single, bunt single, K, K, K.
In the 2nd the Bears went double, bunt single, bunt popped up to C, caught stealing and K.
In the 3rd the Bears went down in order.
In the 4th the Bears went triple, RBI single, double, ground to 3B, runner at 3rd picked off by C, line out to P.
After surviving that Cody seemed to settle down a bit. The 5 runs the Shocks scored in the 5th and 3 in the 6th certainly help with that.
In addition to Tanner Kirk's outstanding catch, Chase Rader made a nice over-the-shoulder catch on blooper in the 5th and Gunnar Troutwine helped by throwing out the 2 runners above in critical situations.
Not sure you can make a living pitching in as much trouble as Tyler was early in the game but some how he and his teammates did it. It sure helps when you don't walk anyone. Cody did hit a batter with 2 outs in the 6th. But for one game anyway the Shocks put on quite a show and I have to give them a :encouragement: for that.
Perhaps the Shocks best game of the season in terms of playing a complete game. Decent pitching, good and timely hitting and good defense.
When you look at the box score it as the feel that we were living in oppo-world:
MSU 2-11-0-8
WSU 9-11-0-5
Just the opposite of what we have generally seen for this Shocker team. It is very hard to have any confidence at all that this will continue.Last edited by 1972Shocker; April 16, 2016, 10:44 AM.
