  • I'm inherently lazy, so...

....I don't want to wade through an enormous amount of stuff, but I want to ask two questions, and I apologize if already asked:
1.Is this coaching staff Boatright's first BIG decision?
    2. Has he been in contact with Hooper?

    Thank you, and good day!

I believe it was Sexton that hired Butler.
I have no idea if they are talking to Hooper... i thought i read that Hooper just took a job in the minors.

Both true. But that could still make the baseball coaching staff Boatright's first big decision. And Hooper still has a home in Wichita, as his family is staying here.

The thread 4 spots down entitled "Fire Todd Butler" will probably have a lot of your answers.

          It doesn't hurt to look.

A question mark for Hooper is college degree. It has not been confirmed that Hooper has passed through this gate.

I belive it has. Goshockers.com had an article about him and specifically called him a graduate in the title. It's linked in the Fire Todd Butler thread.

I would say that probably depends on exactly what Boatright's status is. Is he going to be the guy at the top or is he just a placeholder until they finish the review and evaluation of the program that is currently underway. If the latter is the case he may not have full autonomy until that evaluation is completed and some decisions on the direction of the program are made.

I was thinking about Eric Sexton's firing of Gene and it just seemed out of character for Eric to seek out such a confrontation especially with a strong-willed personality like Gene. Just look at how he avoided dealing with issues in the WBB program until they blew up on him a year ago. On the other hand President Bardo has shown a willingness to shake things up and a willingness to step on a few toes along the way if he has to. President Bardo was hired 1 year prior to Gene's firing. Has anyone ever wondered if the real driving force behind Gene's firing may have actually been Dr. Bardo and Eric was just being a good soldier in carrying out the execution? If Dr. Bardo, who was a professor at WSU from 1973 to 1983, was not enamored with the image Gene projected I could see him forcing the issue. IF that was the case then I could see Dr. Bardo wanting a total break from Gene's legacy and it is possible his directions to Eric were to hire outside of the family tree.

I'm not trying to defend or justify Eric Sexton's actions in any way. I really have no idea whether or not any of that is true in any way, shape or form. It probably isn't, but who the hell knows for sure.

Who knows whether he has or whether he even considers there is a need for any contact at this point in time.

I'm surprised more people aren't bringing up Mark Standiford this time around. The man has proven he knows how to recruit and win at the college level. While at Tabor I believe he has been able to recruit a lot of D1 talent. Now, I have tremendous respect for Hooper as a coach, and he has been able to do good things coaching at a post-collegiate level. I can honestly say, as someone who has played for both Gene and Standiford, that Standiford is by far the best coach I have ever had. I don't understand the mindset of Sexton in distancing the program from anyone descending from the Stephenson coaching tree. Count me all in for Standiford.

Mods, feel free to move my post to the Fire Todd Butler thread. I needed to let that out and I'm entirely too lazy to re-type this post in the other thread.

Hey @1972Shocker:, since we are going to explore alternative theories about what might have happened, how about: Dr. Bardo and Gene show up at a party shortly after Dr. Bardo's hiring, but before Gene has even met him, and Gene grabs Dr. Bardo's wife's derriere! Could have happened!! Would explain a lot!

That's correct. However, his family is staying at their home in Wichita. http://www.kansas.com/sports/other-s...e54319185.html

The obviousness of the situation is pretty glaring. But so is the size of that buyout.

Based on his salary, I'd guess somewhere a little north of $1.2MM

If WSU baseball grosses $10 per fan per game, play 30 home games a year, and Butler means the loss of 1,000 more fans per game. Then 10 x 1,000 x 30 = 300,000 which over the next for seasons = 1.2 mil lost over next 4 years.

Granted I'm assuming Butler coached teams chase off 1,000 fans, that they gross 10 bucks per attendee to a game (ticket, beer, snacks), and that a different coach would help retain some of that lost potential revenue.
