  • Standiford and Tabor

They started construction on an indoor baseball facility. I suspect that's a rare luxury for an NAIA school.

    Mark Standiford @tcbaseball
The Indoor baseball facility at Tabor College is going up!! Can't thank Lee Penner enough for his gracious gift.

Do you keep track of Standiford's progress at Tabor?

Not closely. I follow him on twitter and our youth pastor played for him at Tabor.

As a Great Grandson of the founder of Bethel College, this disturbs me.
One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

I spent a good chunk of my formative years in Newton. The Bethel students were always easy to pick out of a crowd, and were generally the subject matter of many a joke. If somehow Bob Marley and Joe Dirt mated and produced offspring you'd have the prototypical Bethel student, only I'm not sure BM or JD could touch a Bethel student's ability to be the social, political, and cultural equivalent to an incessant mosquito. Bethel folks fall in the same category as those associated with KU and Creighton do, only with less refinement and more pot smoking.

On the other hand, I have several relatives, and several high school classmates who attended and graduated from Tabor. They're pretty normal folks, both yesterday and today.

Whoa, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition! Living next door to Hillsboro, I can assure you that they are not normal.

BTW, I went to WSU, not Bethel.

Yeah, I didn't mean anything personal. My Mom actually went there, long before it turned into the loony bin it is today.

I do appreciate Tabor though. If a person had to choose a KCAC school to go to (a decision I personally don't get from a cost-benefit perspective, but whatever) I'd definitely go to Tabor.

The church I've attended since I was 18 is part of the same denomination as Tabor, so I have several friends and acquaintances who went there or sent their kids there. But I've never been to one of their sporting events. Must be the Bluejay effect. I've only gone there to pick my kids up from summer camps.

For the record, the two people used to know fairly well who went to Bethel (a doctor and teacher) are good, normal folk. Of course, they did go to the same high school I did, so that's probably where and when they built their solid foundation! :)

No offense taken @SHOCKvalue:, Just a chance to poke fun at our neighbors. I'll bet we have a bunch of people in common @RoyalShock:. Folks on my Mother's side are from Inman and Buhler.

That would almost be a certainty!

I bet you two are related, if you go back enough generations. I bet the three of us are related in the same context. Does that thought terrify you or what?

On the way to work this morning there was a commercial asking for volunteers to help with a trial program for a new depression medication. I've never been depressed so I didn't think anything of it. Then I read this:

Did anyone else hear that commercial and remember the number?
