At second base, Hoopers position, size is probably a low priority.

At Pitcher, Barnhouse's position, size/height is probably a high priority.

WTF are some of you talking about?

"Barnhouse is known as a fireballer. His four-seam fastball was clocked at 94 miles-per-hour in bullpen sessions during the offseason, but during the season, he said it sticks around the 89-92 mph range."

At second base, hitting and fielding should be the priority. Hooper had both qualities.

At pitcher, getting outs should be the priority.

You were the one to say you hadn't seen any big fireballers and I merely pointed one out. I did not disparage KH or his tremendous abilities just a comparison between their physical size.

Understood, though my comments were in response to a recruit before Barnhouse in this thread. I don't really see how physical size or the KH comparison play into anything either way.

Regardless, I'm sure we're all just excited to see how some of these new guys shake out. End of the day, hopefully there are some winners and ball players in there.

Inside sources have said that Drake Durham (committed earlier July) has been sitting 85-88mph touching 89mph in recent bullpens as Tommy Barnhouse (committed late July) has been sitting 92-93 touching up to 95mph in his bullpens.

Can't wait to see these guys on the mound!

Is that the same Shawn Sedlacek who was drafted by and played briefly for the Royals?

Haven't seen this posted here anywhere, but my wife has a friend who's son signed with the baseball team on August 12th. (link)

                  Landon Holifield
                  RHP
                  6' 4" 210 lbs

Formerly with Abilene Christian, so I assume he's a transfer, and it looks like he'll be a senior? Don't know much about him otherwise.

Yes! He told me he's been working with Barnhouse for awhile and that Durham came in for some bullpens. He said that they're great kids saying that their physicality is there, but they need some work with the mental part of pitching (which is common with young pitchers).

                      New Players

Paul Suellentrop reported the addition of 3 new players to the roster in the Eagle on Sun, Aug 16th: Landon Holifield, Brian Greisman, & also Josh Whistler. You can probably find all the details on the Eagle website.

The lead topic on that report was about Katy Dudzinski of the Shocker Volleyball team. Here is the report on the baseball signings that followed the lead topic:

WSU baseball added two players with experience to its roster over the summer and a third will join the team after attending WSU last spring.

                        ▪ Catcher Josh Whisler, a junior who also plays first and third, transferred to WSU from Fort Scott Community College. He hit .384 with 10 home runs, 16 doubles and 76 RBIs. He said he also considered Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oregon and Evansville before committing to WSU in June. Shockers coaches watched him go 7 for 14 with a home run in four games at the Region VI tournament at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in May.

Whisler played for the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs this summer. He hit .471 in five NBC World Series games, doubling and tripling and driving in four runs, and earned a spot on the all-tournament team as the designated hitter.

He is from Owasso, Okla., a town that has produced several Shockers, including pitcher Jeb Bargfeldt. Bargfeldt gave WSU a good recommendation after leaving in the spring to transfer to Cisco (Texas) College.

“He had nothing but great things to say about this place and about the coaches,” Whisler said. “I trust him. We’re pretty good friends.”

                        ▪ Pitcher Brian Greisman, while recovering from Tommy John (elbow) surgery, attended class at WSU in the spring semester. He was rehabbing from the surgery and did not practice.
He pitched at Murray State (Okla.) College in 2014, throwing 17 innings and compiling a 7.41 ERA. He was teammates with WSU reliever John Hayes at Murray.
Greisman, from Ardmore, Okla., had surgery in July 2014, scuttling his plans to play for NAIA Oklahoma Baptist. He will be a junior at WSU. Greisman pitched for the Kansas Cannons this summer, serving mostly as a closer.

                        ▪ Pitcher Landon Holifield, a transfer from Abilene Christian, will sit out this season and be eligible in 2017 for his final season.
He walked on at Abilene Christian and made 10 relief appearances with a 4.34 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings. The assistant coach who recruited Holifield out of Fort Scott Community College left before the season and left Holifield without an advocate.

“It just never felt right,” he said. “I had a great experience for the most part, but I just wasn’t really wanted there.”

I thought it was interesting that Jeb Bargfeldt spoke well of the program to Josh Whisler even though he is moving on where he can hit and pitch.

Excited to say I have committed to play baseball at Wichita State University.
