  • Coaches Show (3/9/15)

Tewes is being looked at now and should have a prognosis later this week.

    Not happy at being 3-9.

    Team is tight right now.

Had to play people out of position (Burns at 2nd) due to injuries/sickness (Rader) which has lead to some errors.

He thinks he got some good hitters , they have just struggled (and trip to California probably didn't help since this program is 1-11 out on the west coast).

Butler is going to stay out at 3rd base from here on out.

They are working hard on fixing the fielding problems and fixing the players missing signs. They are doing 27 outs (have to get 27 outs in row, or you start over).

      OF has been good
IF has been alright, mainly plagued by players playing out of position
Tinkham has did alright at catcher but has average arm. Arens is better defensively with strong arm. Needs to get Sanagorski in their because he got the best bat.

They have been working on 2-2 count approach in the hopes of drawing more walks.

He still like offense of this team even though they are hitting 0.252. Team has good speed, only been thrown out when missing signs. Has good gap power.

Coach wants his players working the pitchers and drawing walks (if not getting hits) That is the key to big innings. He is not the fan of getting a runner on and then bunting him over. He says you are letting the pitcher off the hook by giving up an out and actually results in less runs scored.

But get runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and the bunt is in play. Also, I'm sure he would consider bunting a lead off runner over in the late innings of a close game.

yeah, he not against bunting. just bunting at the right time (which late innings is always a given) or example he gave if you have runners at 1st and 2nd

The technical glitches on tonight's two coach's shows were annoying as hell.

So we had 1 injury and our entire infield couldn't field for crap? Including the pitchers? I guess I fail to see the causality. At the very least it's a huge warning sign about a serious lack of competent depth.

Can you hit a D1 curveball? A high school curveball? Just identify it and never swing at them? Cause that would make you the cleanup hitter.

This was the only thing that I raised an eyebrow on too. I think it is an excuse to blame the infield miscues "mainly on players playing out of position". We had one player that missed 3 or 4 games that created a bit of a shuffle but all of these guys are listed on the roster as INF. It wasn't like we had to move an outfielder in to play SS. That being said I think the fielding did improve over the weekend series so HCTB may have just been covering for the early season tightness of several guys. Hopefully we will continue to see improvement this week and weekend and the confidence will be back for the next road swing.
