IIRC, Joe Carter and Doug Mirabelli received full rides. There may have been a handful of others but they were few and far between.

I would assume is that the reality of the college baseball scholarship situation - these student athletes in baseball have to really rely on the full aspects of financial aid (grants and loans) and academic scholarships to pay for their education.

The NCAA mandates that anyone who receives a scholarship must get at least 25% of a full ride. Therefore, if you had 5 full scholarships awarded and 5 half scholarships awarded you would have only 4.2 scholarships remaining. Which would allow you offer 25% & change scholarships to another 16 players. That would put you at 26 players on scholarship. I believe that you are only allowed to have 27 "counters" on scholarship. Therefore, you will always have a minimum of 8 walk-ons on your 35 team roster.

However, not sure very many teams offer 5 full scholarships.

Here is an interesting article that discusses the enemy of Men's Sports. Many are quick to blame Title IX. However, this author suggests that the real enemy of Men's sports is the NCAA Scholarship limits.

Put simply, scholarship limits protect and promote revenue sports.
