Call me a pessimist or call me a realist. Money talks. The pros have money, college baseball programs are at a huge disadvantage.

Look, I have been following college baseball a very long time; we have lost players with less hype and less ability than Rader to the pros. If the Tigers want him, they will sign him.

I expect you will be the one who appears as dumb as I am. Wait ... is that right?

Your explanation regarding your statement is seriously understated. You said much more than just "money talks" and into borderline assailing his character. That goes too far.

Assailed who's character? Are you reading challenged? Don't you dare put words in my mouth. I made no statements anywhere about anyone's character. What I did say is that I am not sure Rader is a good fit for the program in its current state and that the track record of these high-hyperbole, talented players is to choose the pro option.

Butler needs players who buy into his scheme right now and commit to making WSU better, not themselves. Honestly, I don't see much up-side for the kid, either. Arkansas wasn't known for developing offensive talent during Butler's time there and certainly the 2014 WSU season didn't lend anything the Butler's resume' in that regard, either.
Obviously my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
Maybe he isn't a good fit. I'm sure that pro ball is his main goal so I'm sure he has his price, especially if receives a higher offer than slot. I know that I was caught by surprise that Dusty Coleman received a $675,000.00 bonus after being drafted in the. 28th round. I'm not sure what "ilk" he was from but he should have signed for that amount in the 28th.

Dusty got that amount because some of the picks ahead of him didnt sign. This gave them extra money to spend. However after Strasburg's class they changed the rules so guys cant get signed for ridiculous amounts. They can only offer him the top amount for the slot.

Getting back to Rader -- there's always a possibility that ANY junior college player might stay for only one year, if he's really good.

But so what? When we went into last season, we all knew that the same was true of Gillaspie -- that he could be around just one more year if he was really good. Was anyone rooting against him so he'd stay for two instead? Or when Dusty Coleman signed unexpectedly, everyone knew that he had only one more year at most anyway, and no one was regretting that his career would be over soon -- only that the one more year never came.

One year of superior production is better than no years. What damaged the WSU talent base in the latter part of the last decade, and ultimately contributed to the end of the Gene regime, wasn't too many guys who were really good for just one year; it was too many guys (i.e., Pete Kozma, Derek Norris, maybe Logan Watkins) who were no-year Shockers instead. You combine that with too many guys who were around for all FOUR years but not ever that noteworthy, and you have yourself a problem.

Wow. I can see pluses, as well as minuses to doing this. This may be something he makes as a future goal. I'll have to chew on this for awhile.

Coach Butler may soon find that this is not the SEC.

Well, dizzle, it depends on who he can recruit -- if he can get the kind of players he helped bring in at Arkansas, we may be on the brink of a new era of Shocker dominance. Gene's regime showed it was possible to command the Valley for a decade or more, then ran out of gas. If Butler can do something even close to that, I suspect there will be a lot of happy fans back at the ballpark.

Here is a portion of George Sipple's story (Detroit Press) on Chase Rader.

KANSAS CITY, MO. — The Detroit Tigers have signed 27 of their top 30 picks from last month’s MLB draft.

They might not sign any others, although they are still talking to a few of them.

Two of the three unsigned players in the top 30 apparently have chosen to continue playing college baseball rather than sign with the Tigers. Right-handed pitcher Parker French, a 19th-round pick, recently tweeted that he planned to return to the Texas Longhorns for his senior year.

Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College third baseman Chase Rader, drafted in the 16th round, announced Wednesday that he plans to play at Wichita State next season. Rader had committed to the Shockers a year ago.

Rader was a National Junior College Athletic Association All-America, batting .444 with 14 home runs, 53 RBIs, 83 runs scored and 47 stolen bases in 54 games this past season.

He tweeted on Wednesday: “I’VE MADE A DECISION….AND I’M GOING TO WICHITA ST @Shocker:Baseball let's get to omaha.”

                                Maybe...

Even a terrific junior season from Rader would simply mean replacing Casey this year, so not sure how that means better offense as a team. Hopefully several new guys can step up, Khile keeps improving, and Mucha, Dearman have great junior seasons.
