  • If he comes, Chase Rader is a one-and-done

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Depends on when you become draft eligible. As a JUCO transfer Chase will be a Junior next year if he doesn't sign with Detroit by July 18th. He will be again be draft eligible next summer.

Most high school recruits are 3 and done becoming draft eligible after their Junior years, although some (especially those who have redshirted) will be drat eligible after their sophomore years under an age status exception.

I believe it also has to do with when you turn 21. Thought one of our guys went early one year cause he turned 21 before a certain date. Believe it was Dusty Coleman.

That is correct, although technically I guess it's age 20 years and 320 days as of the date of the draft.

Butler must really like him IF that's the case. Those are usually reserved for stud pitchers. But since it is likely only a 1-year commitment perhaps HCTB thought it was worth it.

maybe he is counting his financial aid and student loans in the calculations?

It seems like players of this ilk rarely choose the college option. The pro teams usually entice them with a fat signing bonus that seals the deal. I don't really see much up-side for WSU. Butler needs players who buy into his scheme right now and commit to making WSU better, not themselves. Honestly, I don't see much up-side for the kid, either. Arkansas wasn't known for developing offensive talent during Butler's time there and certainly the 2014 WSU season didn't lend anything the Butler's resume' in that regard, either.

Obviously my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

I hope that you prove to be as dumb (or wrong maybe better) as you are a pessimist. There aren't too many teams scoring a lot of runs in college baseball these days. Now ,Butler makes final decisions on who is recruited. At Arkansas, he didn't. We'll see how he does.

I always thought one of the big reasons a player signs with a certain university was the coaching staff and its ability to make him a better player. If he were to come to WSU I would be excited for his ability to produce for one year and help with the transition from one era to the next. I wouldn't worry about the quote about a full scholarship as that may be just the writers assumption that he has a full ride and not a partial that we are more used to. Hope this all plays out well for WSU and Chase.
