Bit of a botched relay that could have wiped out a runner at the plate, but then a couple of nice plays from the infielders, and Ladwig gets out of it only giving up 1.

There has been an extremely wide outside corner all day, for both pitchers. Shocker hitters need to start leaning out there and looking for it. Both pitchers are making a living out there.

Small ball doesn't work if you don't have guys who can drive in the runners that move up, or otherwise hit situationally. Butler's Shockers will underachieve offensively until he gets them to execute better, gets other guys who can execute better, or maybe -- I can only dream -- quits playing so much small ball.

At some point, the Gene haters are also going to be out of excuses as to why WSU doesn't hit and score the way they used to. I hope it doesn't take a couple more years of futile small ball while we're waiting.

Ladwig would be an All-American candidate if his team could get him 1-2 runs per game. Really sad to see his season being wasted.

The Shocks are also generally facing the best our opponents have to offer when A.J. is on he mound and, unfortunately, they just don't seem to up to the task. outside of Casey G. and he can't do it by himself.
