  • Gm 20 - vs SWMO (1 of 3)

Shox (12-9) went 3-3 on their road trip against quality competition. Could have been a really good road trip had things fallen a little different. But we have seen worse in the last few years so maybe things are looking up a little.

MVC opener(for WSU) is this weekend with the MOST coming to town for 3 games. MOST is 8-10 and have lost 7 in row (including 3 to DBU) and have not scored a run in 41 innings.

Missouri State is of course struggling at the plate, but they have two starter who can shut people down.

    Cody Schumacher 0.58 ERA, 32 K's in 31 IP.
Jon Harris 1.75 ERA, in 25 IP and opp. BA 0.175.

Just a small correction, but they are 12-7 on the year. You probably had 12-9 on the brain due to the score of today's game.

I think the intent was that the Shox are 12-7, not 12-9.

Glad we got that cleared up.

Thanks for these series and game previews, @SB Shock:. Much appreciated.

Dallas Baptist recently swept MSU in a 3 game series that won't count for the MVC standings (they are scheduled to play 6 times this year). Hopefully the Shox can do the same and the Bears continue to reel for at least one more weekend.

          Go Shox!

Also of note- the RPI is stabilizing and beginning to reflect reality now that most teams are ~1/3 of the way into the season.

As of today: WSU 36, MSU 113

Our next ten games after MSU do not get any easier than the recent stretch: x2 Nebraska (73), x3 Fullerton (33), x3 @ Indiana State (26), x2 @ Kansas State (75)

And I will second @Cdizzle's thanks for these threads, @SB Shock:. It is great having discussions for each game like the old days.

              We're playing two against Nebraska?

Ahhh good catch, I was using WarrenNolan and they had us playing them twice. You are correcto- just one game.

I've noticed Warren Nolan's schedule is pretty messed up. Some extra games in there and complete omissions elsewhere.

This game is listed as a TV game but unfortunately, it is during our NCAA basketball game.

You'll just have to watch the first couple of innings, then switch it over to basketball!

Chase Simpson with perhaps his biggest hit as a Shocker. A 2-out, 2-run homer off of Cody Schamacher in the bottom of the 4th to put the Shocks up 2-0.

                          A. J. has strung together 7 zeroes so far. He hasn't been totally dominant give up 7 hits, but only one was for extra bases (a 2-out double in the 6th) and he has not walked anyone. He is at 102 pitches so my guess we will go to the pen in the 8th but we will see.

Cody Schumacher is still in the game for MSU in the bottom of the 7th with a pitch count of 98 after 6 innings of course Keith Guttin has never seemed to be to concerned with such details.

Guttin back to the pen for Jr. LH Tyler Burgess to face Casey G with runners on 1st and 3rd and 2 out. Good move as Casey struck out to end the inning.

                            Shocks 3 - Bears 0

Drew Palmer coming on in relief of A.J.

A.J. may well be the most improved Shocker this year vs last.

In the Shocker 8th a lead-off single by Garrett Bayliff followed by a double by Chase Simpson plates run #4 for the Shocks. Hopefully, this game is a sign that Chase's bat is breaking out.

Shocks use the running game to steal a 5th run. With runners on the corners and 2-outs Eric Harbutz stole second and Chase Simpson stole home on the throw to the SS who apparently made a throwing error trying to get Chase at home. Joe Haddox struck out for the 3rd time in the game after that.

After 8 full its the Shocks 5 and the Bears 0.
