  • Gm 15 - at No. 20 UC Santa Barbara (1 of 3)

WSU (10-4) have a big series this weekend facing ranked 20/23 UC Santa Barbara. UCSB RPI is 24th.

    UCSB statline (WSU in)

    Avg: 0.330 (0.302)
    OBP: 0.431 (0.379)
    SLG: 0.449 (0.426)
    RPG: 7.6 (6.0)
    HR: 7 in 13 games (8 in 14 games)
    35 steals in 40 attempts (15 out 20)

    ERA: 2.97 (2.22)
    FLG: 0.962 (0.963)

Will provide a real test to see where WSU really matches up in all phases of their game.

Their .330 team batting average is very impressive. But I figured this was due to feasting on low tier programs. So I looked at their combined team average against Mississippi State, Arizona, UCLA and Pepperdine (6 games total) and their team average is .363!! Pretty freakin' impressive.

Our pitching will be tested and we will definitely need the offense to step and give our pitching confidence and some help.

      Probable Pitching Matchups
      March 14 — A.J. Ladwig (RHP, 1-1, 0.70) vs. Justin Jacome (LHP, 2-0, 1.40)
      March 15 — Cale Elam (RHP, 2-0, 0.98) vs. Robby Nesovic (RHP, 1-0, 0.00)
March 16 — Sam Tewes (RHP, 3-1, 2.70) vs. TBA

Could I borrow someone's magnifying glass so I can check out the ERA's of these starting pitchers. Shocker Fr. Sam Tewes looks like the real slackard in this group, although I have a feeling Sam will hold his own quite well when all is said and done.

The Shocks will need to do all the little things right this weekend whenever they get ducks on the pond. Gotta keeo the empty AB's to a minimum.

Hopefully, the Shocks will enjoy and take advantage of some great baseball weather:

        Damn near perfect.

As much as this athletic department has done right over the last couple of years, I really wish someone would figure out something with the radio broadcast infrastructure/production. It's infuriating.

Both teams work around leadoff singles in the 1st.

          0-0
          End 1

Is the radio broadcast online? Not showing up on shockerradio.

I believe it is internet-only, and the internet broadcast wasn't working. It just came back on in the middle of the 2nd. Hopefully it works the rest of the way.

              Use Stream 2.

We've played 4.5 innings in an hour. This game might be over before 7.

Parker leads off the 6th with a single. Shox need something to happen on offense.

UCSB starter Justin Jacome getting a blister on his hand checked out by the training staff. Maybe this can swing the momentum the Shockers' way.

Shockers continue to be offensively challenged - trailing 2-0 in 8th

Gillespie goes yard 2-1 but I have little hope we'll get another runner. 1 out top 9.

The Gauchos brought in their ace closer that hasn't given up a run all year and he closed the door on the last 2 Shockers, Simpson and Green. 2-1 Final.
