  • NCAA approves new baseball for 2015

On mobile, but link can be found on NCAA page on ESPN.

Smaller seams let ball fly further, increasing chances for homeruns.

Is similar to Minor League Ball.

Deaden the bats, juice the ball. This folks is ncaa logic at its best.

Actually it makes sense because this closer emulates mlb bats and balls. Plus deadening the bats gets rid of explosive force that can be dangerous whereas the ball us more about reduced drag on fly balls.

        Link.

I'm not sure I like how they plan to roll it out. Pitchers will use the current ball through the 2015 regular season, then have to suddenly switch to the new one for the post season. That makes no sense to me. I guess the NCAA is hoping for record walks and/or hit batters at the CWS!

I wonder if the lower seams will also help the hitters by reducing the movement pitchers will be able to get, especially on breaking pitches.

All-in-all though I think it's the right move.

Maybe they could require the offense to be barefoot, but spring load the bases to launch 'em?

              I'd watch that.

With the old bats we were way too far in favor of the hitters in college baseball. Now with the bbcor bats I think we are way too far the other way. This change will help them find some middle ground and also let scouts see which pitchers really can throw a slider.Time to learn to throw the change up fellas!

I would say so. The NCAA ball has had very high seams allowing the pitchers to get a really good grip on the ball and it made it easier for college pitchers to work various spinners and breakers. It will be interesting to see the difference.
