  • Cody Clark to the Show!

Lots of mentions on twitter that Cody Clark has been called up by the Astros. Talk about perseverance! He's almost 32 and was in his 9th minor league season.

I was wrong. He was drafted in 2003, so it's more like his 11th year in he minors.

By my count that's six former Shockers currently in the majors.

      Pelfrey
      Dirks
      Gillespie
      Hill
      Johnson
      Clark

      Am I missing anyone?

Very nice -- for some reason I thought he had given up. Congrats to Cody, even if it's the Astros. Maybe our old (sorry; "long-time") pal Charlie can enlighten us further -- wasn't she a Cody fan?

No, but I don't think it will be long before Flynn will be up there.

He was called up due to two of their back-up catchers getting hurt in very close chronological proximity. One or both of them are on the 7-day concussion list, so he may only get a sip of his cup of coffee.

Very nice, but that's not Charlie -- she isn't wearing her pig hat (among other things).

Clark was called in Corpus Christi manager Keith Bodie's office Thursday night and asked how many managers he had played for in his career. Bodie then told him he was privileged to be the first to tell him he's going to the big leagues.

"I broke down and said, 'Thank you,'" Clark said.

Interesting note: this makes Cody the 2nd former Fayetteville High player currently in the majors, along with Cubs reliever Blake Parker.

Even though Cody's stay in the bigs will likely be short, I know it is a great thrill for him.

He will spend six weeks in the major leagues and it will be all honey.

I am very glad for Cody.

I wonder, if he has field management in mind, after he is done. I suspect he would be a very fine coach.

If we are counting coaches, don't forget Arnie Beyeler. He coaches first for the Red Sox.

Cody started yesterday for Houston. The Houston starting pitcher was former Razorback Dallas Keuchel. :)

Thanks, Charlie. Still waiting for that picture of you in your pig hat, though.
