Wedge was on the Shane Dennis' Radio Show yesterday afternoon. Said that his stroke was the result of sleep apnea which has been addressed and he feels great.

I'm sure Eric understands that Cubs is shorthand for "wait until next year" but if he can get that team turned around he will be more than just a little bit popular in Chicago-land. I think the question with the Cubs is does the front office have what it takes to put together a team that has enough talent to contend.

Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer have placed much of their focus on rebuilding a minor league system that seriously lacked talent. In their short time in Chicago, they have drafted and traded well, adding some big time talent to the system. It is now widely regarded as a top 5 (maybe better) system. They will have a lot of talent coming to the bigs in the next few years, or they will be using those pieces to trade for proven major leaguers.

The Cubs are still probably one year away from seriously competing for a playoff spot, but it would be a good situation for a manager to step in to. I'm an Eric Wedge fan and a Cubs fan. Will be interesting to see how their manager search plays out.

Maybe time for a new thread name so people don't start worrying about Wedge's health all over again, although the Cubs could certainly have ill effects on someone who's susceptible.
