I'm a pretty fair washer player myself. Andrew Von Lintel looks to be in poor washer shape, plus those are some pretty low rent washer boards. I guess Kansas State isn't investing all that Texas League money into better washer facilities. Plus, the washer he's holding isn't even regulation.

Close, but this is a derivative of the game you are thinking of. In the village of Mancrap'n this derivative of washers is known to the locals as "warshers". In this derivative you get bonus points if you can spit some chaw in the warsher board at your feet while simultaneous scoring with a warsher. You can use the spit cup if you wanna, but you don't get any bonus points for that unless you swaller a little and can keep it down for 30 seconds.

I'm right here, if you are curious what I think about the hire, here goes, I am not surprised ades went out of family for this, I like mashers on the corners hopefully he can get them,
I would like to think this guy is capable but so was Gene so I guess we will see next spring. LOL at the Marshall comparisons, Marshall is like one of the best coaches in college basketball and nobody out recruits his level like Marshall anywhere. All in all I believe we would have been better off with Gene first, former shocker 2nd, and someone like Butler 3rd.
Not that any of them are bad options or will make much difference. Hopefully this guy is successful and stays.

He's scoring bonus points with me - showing up at the Alumni Associations meeting tonight while they were discussing budget cuts from the state. Nice to see him taking an interest with the goings on with the university. Unless of course ADES forced him to attend of course.

Did they explain why WSU is asking for a 8% tuition increase, when the budget cut was 1.5 - 3%?

From posts that you've made, I assume that you are a very smart person and have heard of fixed costs and inflation (what has inflation been this year on food, energy, etc. Additionally, I would assume that leadership would like to give some minimal raises to (at least some) employees so that they can offset inflation in their lives. Finally, I would assume that the final factor in the increase is that (just like West Star and other utilities who ask for raises), WSU assumes that they will only be allowed a portion of what they ask for so they ask for more than they expect.

Without any knowledge about the situation, this would be my suppositions.

I have a real problem with increases in pay that outstrip inflation when a large (any) part of funding comes from taxpayers. It simply doesn't add up.

DR. WU, did you have the same problem when pay reaises were ZERO while inflation increased 8.9% (CPI May 2009 to May 2013)or 11.4%, the cost of living increase awarded to Social Security retirees 2009 to 2013?

My only problem with this is that the legislature slashed and burned the budget like they did. They could have taken a much more incremental approach to tax reform. Our jails are in trouble, Riddell Boys Ranch appears in danger of being closed, water problems, etc. Middle class deductions go down (income taxes go down too but for a net loss). These families have done with less for 5 years in a row, while inflation goes up, and the state budget is only going to get worse. Fixed incomes shouldn't go on for a decade or more.

First of all, let's see the data. "Many of these faculty" isn't ZERO as you say. Did people leave? Also, not everyone deserves a raise. CERTAINLY not in a government funded, almost impossible to get fired, benefits that a private sector worker would KILL for (also funded by the tax payer) job.

And don't even get me started on Social Security.

You cannot have the sustained growth for the "getting" when the "giving" growth lags. PERIOD.

They should if they're broken in the first place. All of these arguments stem from a common principle that the starting point, whether it be salaries, benefits, tenure etc etc, were perfect to start with.
