I kind of work for the NSA. I'm with the military, so technically I'm with the NSA/CSS.

I have been keeping up with current events. I know the way the reports sound. Again, the NSA deals with foreigners, the FBI deals with Americans.

Obviously I can't touch on anything that's classified or speak for anyone but myself. I'm just some dumb soldier pointing out the difference between those two organizations ;)

Your information would be correct pre-911, but is incorrect now. The government has since amended the wiretap laws and the NSA can now monitor American. Specifically American communicating abroad, but they still monitor all American communication.

The 2008 FISA Amendments Act allow the NSA to analyze, with court orders, domestic communications of all types for counter-terrorism, counter-espionage, counter-narcotics and counter-proliferation purposes. If the agency believes that both ends of the communication, or the circle of those communicating, are wholly within the U.S., the FBI takes over. If one end of the conversation is outside the U.S., the NSA keeps control of the monitoring.

Washington Post reported, however, it is often very difficult to segregate U.S. citizens and residents from incidental contact.

The National Security Agency’s collection of phone data from all of Verizon’s U.S. customers is just the “tip of the iceberg,” says a former NSA official who estimates the agency has data on as many as 20 trillion phone calls and emails by U.S. citizens.

You realize you're literally arguing that you being an internet expert makes you more knowledgeable and up to date on this issue than the guy who works there, right? ;)

The US can kill Americans with drone strikes overseas. It's happened four times.

            • I did not realize that NSA was carrying out the following:

"Maintain or strengthen privacy and civil liberties protections."
"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

Really, are you implying you work for the NSA? Please, Rule No. 1 - Those in fight club, do not talk fight club (unless of course you move to Hong Kong).

I'm only stating what is being reported by the presses investigation. Not my problem that it contradicts what you think. If it wrong, then point out where the press investigation is wrong.

                • I am the last one to be a thread police, but this is a wee bit off track.

Hey the Cardinals have the best record in baseball and they have a bunch of rookie, no-name pitchers.

Also, there is a new study about how Medicaid really doesn't do much to help the health outcomes compared to lower income folks who don't have Medicaid.

One more thing, Nadal just won his EIGHTH French Open. He is on his way to overtake Federrerrrr as the best tennis player of all time.

And I have a comment in the form of a question.

Will the hockey playoffs be completed by Christmas?

                    Just wondering.

                        I am in total agreement.

well, they are monitoring every phone call and e-mail you make. not that it stopped the boston bombers, whom they were warned about beforehand.

good luck wsu finding a coach that can do even half of what stephenson did on the field. of course they won't, not even close to that, much as i wish they could.

I wasn't implying anything. I pretty explicitly stated it. I'm not sure how much clearer I could have been, so I'm not really sure how you're confused. I'm fully allowed to state that I work for the NSA. It's on my unclassified resume for a reason ... go by LinkedIn and you'll find hundreds of employees of the NSA on there. There's no "Fight Club" comparison.

We're not the CIA. The NSA is a bunch of computer nerds. And, in my case, military personnel that have been forced to become computer nerds ;)

I'm not contradicting anything. You're welcome to be a Wikipedia-expert and believe you have more knowledge about this than me. I'm just throwing out there that the members of the NSA/CSS are Americans, a pretty hefty chunk are members of the armed services, and I think it's pretty crazy to believe a bunch of 22-year-old Marines are sitting around creating a police state regarding your emails/phone calls to your mom. The military members swear an oath to the Constitution, not to the NSA. Just tossing that context out there to keep in mind when you're reading the news.

That's the last of my comments on it. Back to whining about Gene being fired >=)

Mike Matheny is going to be the new coach of the Shockers? What about his son? Won't that be a little awkward coaching against his son at Missouri State?
