He may come around yet. He may just not like playing in cold, and I mean cold, weather. Hopefully, he will warm up as the weather warms up. OTOH, could be everyone has the book on how to get him out down pat and unless Johnny can makes some adjustments he may struggle. It sounds like he is getting mostly breaking balls away and hard-stuff in on his hands where he can't get those long arms extended. One slight positive from today was he drove in the Shockers 1st run with a rope to right field and he only struck out one time.

No. 1 and No. 2 - 0 for 9, 1 walk. A offense is going to fail if your No. 1 and No. 2 don't get on base. And the choices of who they are batting is just a little boggling.

Doggett OBP is 0.143 at No. 1
Dearman is batting 0.143 with OBP of 0.313 at No. 2

and when you are struggling - you don't play Baker.

They lineup they played today theoretically should score 3.1 runs, with baker in it and optimized you could expect to score 5.3 runs. With some better choices, they could have scored closer to 6 runs (5.8 to be exact).

But then again, not very good pitching combined with poor defense. Not much to get excited about.

I will say that Central Arkansas is a better team than anyone expected. HOWEVER, they are still freaking Central Arkansas.

This players better figure somethings out quickly, since they will get no help from the coaches. Otherwise, they are going to get smoked in the Valley.

Yep, and its strange and downright embarrassing to see this. Shouldn't we be the ones who are 10 and 1 given our advantages our so called powerhouse program has compared to UCA?

We have 4 guys swinging the bats good right now: Casey G, Tyler B, Eric H and Micah G. I think Dayne Parker might hit a little. Johnny Coy -- I don't know. Right now he is struggling. Nobody else appears ready to contribute on a consistent basis.
IMO, the lineup should be changed to Green, Harbutz, Coy, Gillaspie, Baker, Parker then whoever to maximize scoring chances. If the hot 1-2 guys keep getting on base, Coy sees more fastballs and perhaps can start making contact. He doesn't stay in the line-up unless he STOPS STRIKING OUT. No reason to waste hitters who can get on to protect Coy if he can't produce.

The punch-and-judy guys should be relegated to the bottom of the order and had better start figuring out how to get on base or else the Shox will be scoring 3 runs per game and there will be so much pressure on the pitching staff to be perfect that another 35-25 season or worse is going to be a reality.

Shox vs. Iowa Sunday breakfast meeting.

Iowa scores 3 in the first two innings off Palmer, shutout after that by McGreevy (4 innings) for the win and Peterson for his 2nd save. Iowa 3-hole hitter reaches base in the 9th with a single after an 11 pitch AB to give Iowa hope. Peterson gets a groundout after a passed ball to seal the deal.

Baker and Green continue to produce with 2 hits each. Baker batting behind Coy today. Johnny gets a 2 RBI double w/ Gillaspie also getting thrown out at the plate. Bobbitt collects 3 singles, scores twice and an SB from the leadoff spot.

Solid bounce back from the UCA loss. Iowa isn't very good, though.

LHP Drew Palmer got the start today against Iowa and left in the 5th inning after giving up a lead off walk but with a 5-3 lead. The runs Drew gave up were largely due to his own wildness. Iowa is not a very strong hitting team per Shane Dennis.

In the first inning, Drew hit the first two batters he faced and both of those runners game around to score on a 2-out single (the only hit of the inning). In the 2nd inning, a 1-out walk followed by two singles scored Iowa's 3rd run.

T.J. McGreevey came on in the 5th after Drew walked the leadoff batter. T.J. gave up a single to his first hitter but then set down the next 3 including the final 2 on stirkeouts. T.J. gave up only 1 more hit and no runs over the next 3 innings to protect the Shocks' 5-3 lead through the 8th.

Shocker closer Brandon Peterson came on in the 9th and closed the matter giving up only a 2-out infield single.

The Shocks scored 1 in the second on a Sac Fly by Eric Harbutz scored Tyler Baker who singled and advanced to 3rd on wild pickoff throw and a passed ball.

The Shocks took a 4-3 lead with a 3-spot in the top of the 3rd. Mikel Mucha and Cody Bobbitt opened the inning with singles. Garrett Bayliff bunted Mucha and Bobbitt into scoring postion. An intentional walk to Casey G. loaded the bases for Johnny Coy who doubled to left center scoring Mucha and Bobbitt but Casey was thrown out at the plate for the 2nd out of the inning. A double down the right field line by Tyler Baker on a 3-0 scored Johnny for the 3rd run of the inning. Kudos to Gene for turning Tyler loose in that situation.

The Shocks added their final run in the 5th. Bobbitt lead off with a single, advanced to 2nd on a ground out by Bayliffe and scored when Casey was safe on a throwing error by the 1B.

Certainly not a dominating win but any win is probably a good win for this team. Nice job by T.J. McGreevey who got the win in relief and Brandon Peterson is doing a nice job of closing. T.J. is Shane's pick as the star of the game.

Pretty good performance on the trip considering how we played against Pitt. Looks like the bullpen is shoring up some of the leaks and at least no longer getting crushed by subpar hitters.

7 home games ahead before we go to Long Beach and Hawaii.

I agree. And after going 4-1 in Arkansas, the Shox go 6-1 in the 7 games ahead of the Long Beach/Hawaii trip. It appears that the team is slowly improving.
