A walk to Daniel Kihle forces in the 3rd run of the inning as the Shocks lead moves to 9-5.

Sounds like this rally is mostly the product of wildness by the UALR pitchers than anything the Shocks have really done outside of the leadoff double by Baker.

Johnny Coy had not walked all season up until his final plate appearance - I think showing patience at the plate and drawing walks is an accomplishment. After all, getting on base is step one is generating runs. I don't care how they score from that point, just that they do.

Not swinging at bad pitches is a good skill to have but you are certainly going to need more than that to be successful over the course of a season.

The fact of the matter is that the Shocks failed miserably to move Baker over to 3rd after his leadoff double (one might argue they did not even try) and you also had to have a wild UALR reliever on the mound who couldn't find the strike zone. Not seeing the game I can't really comment on how patient the Shocks were. They may have been or it could be that the pitches simply weren't close.

Looks like Casey is going to have a good year at the plate and Tyler Baker has also had some good AB's. Eric Harbutz is hitting for a good average but with no extra base hits. Bottom line is that through 5 games the Shocks are hitting 0.247 vs 0.349 for our opponents. That will have to change because its questionable how far this pitching staff can carry a 0.250 hitting team. Hopefully, by the time we get to MVC play the Shocks hitting will have picked up.

I really, really hope we aren't reduced to cheering for our ability to not swing at bad pitches.

Strikeouts continue to plague this team whether they be swinging or looking. Fighting off pitches, working the count, drawing walks, putting the ball in play are all things our teams used to do well. It was easy for Gene to coach his "style" back then. Now we need to do anything we can to move runners over because the ability to handle the bat up and down the lineup is just not there yet. Gene hasn't seemed to figure this out.

Shocks jump out a 4-0 lead on Western Illinois in the 1st with a key double by Casey G. and key single by Micah G. sandwiched among a couple of walks, a hit batter and wildpitch.

Kris Gardner have been very sharp so far with 3 scoreless innings on only 30 pitches.

Tyler Baker homers to lead off the 3rd to go up 5-0. Tyler B. and Casey G. really cranking it for the Shocks. Hopefully, some of the other guys will get it going soon.

Shocks have scored their 5 runs on only 3 hits, so they are taking advantage of the chances being handed to them.

Shocks now up 8-0 scoring early and often and on only 4 hits. The Shocks were the beneficiary of 6 walks, a hit batter and a couple of wild pitches.

Casey Gillaspie leads off the bottom of the 4th with a homer after taking 2 strikes to greet the WIU relief pitcher.

Shocks 9-0.

Johnny followed Casey with a sharp single and after 2 outs Micah Green doubled but Johnny was thrown out at the plate trying to score from 1st which was a good gamble with a 9-0 lead.

Micah now has 2 hits today plus a walk to join Casey G. and Tyler B. swinging the bat well.

Very solid outing by Kris Gardner in his 1st outing of the year. 6 innings, 6 hits, 1 earned run.

The way Kris pitches you have to feel good about being in most games that he starts.

Shocks cruise to an 11-3 win over Western Illinois.

Garrett Brummett with 2 scoreless innings in relief. Fr Austin Sanders gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk in the 9th in his Shocker debut.

Shocks even their record at 3-3.
