Kudos to ADES. He's tellin' it like it is.

This is where Gene has hurt himself by not bringing in new blood within the coaching staff and have his hand in the development of the baseball program's future. I suppose he still has time to do so.

I support GS, but in college athletics its pay for performance. Three underwhelming years in a row mandates GS and staff to start delivering. Perhaps the reason why this season's schedule is soft?

          Gene makes $531,131.

          !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get us to Omaha in the next two years or gtfo. An extension might be reasonable if he accepts about a 70% pay cut.

ETA: Gene makes $300,000+ more than KU or KSU's coaches. I've heard a lot on here about the difference in recruiting budgets being the reason for our decline. That number makes me think (1) that excuse is pure bullshit; or (2) perhaps he could allocate 10% of that superior salary to recruiting and ameliorate the recruiting budget issue in about 2 seconds.

That salary has to be at the top end of college baseball. That's more than most of the other MVC basketball coaches, minus McD at CU make.

I think most would agree JT needed to go quite some time ago. But Kemnitz is one of the best in the business.

And who know money may have been the big hold up in an extension all along. I am big proponent of pay for perfomance. A fair but reasonable base salary, for Gene, let's say $200,000 with signfiicant performance bonuses for team achievements and academic performance. If we get to the CWS I have no problem with Gene making $500k, but recent performances have not been worth anywhere close to that number and it's been a long while since we have been to the CWS. I would give performance bonuses for MVC Championships, Regional Appearnances/Hosting, Regional Championships, Super-Regional Hosting/Championships, CWS appearances and CWS championships in addition to reasonable bonuses for player academic performance.

Not sure what ADES' goal is with Gene. To restructure his contract or to retire Gene. How many games we win in a season is not that important. We need MVC Championships. post-season play and success in post-season play. Those should be he measuring sticks.

our facilities alone are an incredible recruiting tool and advantage over most programs. if
you can't recruit with our facilities advantage something is wrong

Had Shane Dennis on the B&B show today and he had a couple of very interesting insights about the program. He said that this years players have never been to a super regional, never won a valley championship and really never succeeded at a level that previous players had. The previous players all had success and really never worked at it beyond what THEY felt they needed to. They were successful to an extent but they just never could get over the hump. An aside to this was a friend of mine said that these previous players had decided THEY didn't want to lift weights under KR and so they didn't but this year they are which is at GS insistence. Anyway the present players have realized that they need to work harder at all aspects of their game to succeed at the level they want to. Shane said they have an attitude that is 180 degrees opposite in relation to previous years. He was very encouraged and upbeat about this team. Bruce used the phrase "sense of entitlement" to perhaps describe the last few years. Be that as it may it still rests on the head man and if he indeed sees change was needed and implements such good for him.

He was probably worth it when he was producing a Top 10, national contender, perennial CWS type program. Somewhere he got lost along the way cheating on his wife, sexual harassment lawsuits and making a day-trip to OU and bad mouthing his own program he built.

Seems like a bizarre time to bring all this up. We're 2 days from opening pitch, I could care less who is the coach in 2014, I want this team and this coaching staff to win right now. Save the coaching change articles for midseason if we're underperforming or post season.

Maybe there is more to this than we all know or think? Just speculating, which so many of us on here are good at.

Media have their own time table for news and baseball is starting so attention goes in that direction. Ten years ago, I would guess that this would not have happened without some of the big time donors clamoring. Times have changed which happens when you aren't a serious contender for at large Regionals or Super Regionals. I hope that this team brings it this year.

That is encouraging, hopefully they play with some fire this season.
