I'm not worried about ADES making the hire. I think just with the pool of former WSU players that are quality coaches right now that he couldn't make a bad hire. Now I suppose he could do something crazy like hire JT but come on, that wouldn't happen would it?

That would be the end of the program as we know it. Lord I hope that he isn't capable of that.

I worry about him making the right choice, but you do bring up a valid point about the coaching pool available.

How many former shockers have pro coaching experience that are avialable? Is Wedge?

It probably depends on if JT has any incriminating pictures of ADES. If he does then all bets are off...

Last I heard Wedge was managing the Seattle Mariners. I do not think he would leave MLB for the Shox.

            Wedge? no

Hooper and Standiford are two to think about.

Kris was great last year and had a good summer. Cale has the arsenal if he can adjust to be a starter. Cale had a so-so summer at best. A.J. is a strike-thrower (maybe pitching too much in the strike zone).
Did Cale start or relieve during the summer ?

Hooper would be a great guy to talk to. His worth ethic and competitiveness were second to none on the field. If those traits translate to mgmt, he could be the Shocker baseball version of HCGM.

Here is the thread that contained most of the discussion regarding summer 2012 performances:

Not sure exactly what role Cale was used in, but whatever it was it wasn't very effective:

                  Page 6, Post 147:

Cale Elam is also having a very poor summer for Falmouth in the Cape Cod league. He has pitched 13.1 innings in 11 appearances giving up 23 hits, 13 runs (12 earned) while striking out 7 and walking 2. He has an 8.10 ERA and 1.92 WHIP.

A little worried about Cale. Thought they might shut him down after the way they worked him last year. Hopefully, he is OK and can get straightened out. I would be surprised if they don't shut him down for fall ball.
Also Page 6, Post 146 regarding A.J. Ladwig's poor summer:

Looks like they did decide to shut down AJ Ladwig after a poor start as a teammate of Casey's at Eua Claire.

His last outing was on June 21st. He was 0-4 with a 7.58 ERA. He had 1 good outing and 3 very poor outings.

I think shutting him down was a good thing. Hopefully, he just had a tired arm and is not injured.

I'm one of the biggest tarheel fans you'll ever meet, but they have no heart. if your team comes in and hustles and plays them tough, then they can easily be beaten. get the ball inside, hustle, and play great defense is the recipe to taking out the heels...

Schaus didn't allow it, Beggs did. Gene didn't contact Schaus, he went around him and called Beggs to get permission to come back.

I had no idea that was the case. That right there shows that Gene thinks he's bigger than the AD and probably the school. This is a perfect example of why it is time for a change.

Why would you think that? Because for most of Gene's career as head coach at Wichita State, he has been bigger than the AD.

I was told that Hooper is not a candidate because he never completed his coursework to get his degree. Can anyone confirm or refute this? I have no doubt he would be a great motivator and have the ability to work the program back to a contender. The fans would love it as well.

I thought there was something mentioned on the news last year that he was happy where he was. Maybe that's why.

Not just the AD but the whole dept. I didn't abbreviate right.
