Going to be a fun year for baseball in the Valley. I know Keith really likes his lineup for 2013. KG considers it to be the most athletic lineup we have had since 2003.

Nice to see the Shox listed in the pre-season poll. Hopefully we will be ranked even higher at the end of the season!

        Never. Fire. Gene.

Really looking forward to this season. If we can find some starting pitching and get healthy we could really have something.

That's fantastic inside information. So when are the Bares going to move their historic program to the National League Central?

Well, it gives you something to look forward to in the next two months of hell, doesn't it?

It should be a fun year in the Valley. I just wish the Valley tournament wasn't being held in Normal, IL. It makes no sense.

What's fair is fair. How will we grow the game if we just put the tournament in college baseball crazed places like Wichita and Springfield? Hopefully they will get excited in Normal/Bloomington and have nice crowds.

Your personal attendance at Bare home games, while somewhat plausible, doesn't make Springfield a part of "baseball crazed places".

Springfield brings about 200 a game during Bare games. I think that went up to about 500 for the Valley Tournament there. Normal will be close to that. It's rather pathetic.

Wichita and Omaha are the breadwinners here and it's not even close.
                    Deuces Valley.
                    ... No really, deuces.

I didn't realize that the Valley was a charitable organization.

Illinois State doesn't even charge for their home games and they still can't draw a crowd. Their infield and outfield are terrible. I have seen more bad hops on that lousy field than any other in the Valley. There are not many quality hotels or motels in Normal (I hope there is absolutely nothing else going on in that area that weekend or nobody will be able to find a room). Their stadium, while pretty new, is very small. If they do manage to somehow draw a crowd there won't be any place to put them.

It really is a crime in my opinion that the Valley baseball tourney will be held there this year. I have been to every Valley tourney since 1978 except for a couple in the 80s, but I doubt if I go this year. I don't want to show any kind of support for such a terrible decision.

Sorry, LfG, but I think you're mistaking fairness for charity. If a school wants to be host for the tournament, shouldn't they do something to show they deserve it? IlSt actually seems to have their program moving generally in the right direction, but from all reports they really, really need to upgrade playing conditions.

Seems to be a recurring theme throughout Valley athletics lately.

While I don't agree with placing the tournament in Normal I do believe they will have a new turf field playing field for 2013.

                              EDIT:

Looks like it will just be a new infield turf.
