  • 10 Signs 10 in Early Period

WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State has received a national letter-of-intent from 10 baseball players in the early signing period, Head Coach Gene Stephenson announced Nov. 29.

3 Juco transfers and 7 HS players.

And I am assuming our first ever recruit from Curacao. Seems like he may have a little pop in his bat.

Kris Gardner's lil bro Austin, a 6-2, 195 RHP. Also Mitch McIntyre, 6-2, 175 RHP out of Wichita NWHS and son of former Shocker Rich McIntyre.

    4 RHP, 2 LHP, 4 INF

Sam Tewes, 6-5, 205 out of Waverly HS in Lincoln, NB.

Not sure I'm buying the 205 but our strength coaches will not doubt get him there and beyond.

I watched Austin Gardner pitch once last summer. He is a very, very nice signing.

Yes, definitely important to get the old Curacao pipeline open. I'm guessing that not just WSU, but most schools who signed a player from there, would be getting their first ever.

What's even better is to see three players from Texas. It's always seemed odd to me that K-State could recruit Texas for baseball players but WSU couldn't -- or didn't -- especially considering that Texans like Jeff Ryan and Casey Davis have been excellent players for the Shocks in the past. Also nice to see at least one offensive player (Nate Winfrey, the infielder from the KC area -- another good place to see the Shocks get someone) with decent size.

I noticed that as well. And none from Oklahoma is a little unusal also.

I'm not sure if this ranks the fall class of 2011 or this year's class but we are number 45, ahead of Creighton and some others that would surprise you.

                      andrelton simmons and jair jurrjens.

simmons is already one of the best if not the best defensive shortstop in the game. also hit at a decent clip before getting injured. he will begin his second year in the majors this coming spring.
