Just found out we only play @ KU this year as well. No return game.

Not a lot of down time in the non-con schedule leading into the start of AAC play. The Shocks play 20 games over a 31 day span before getting a 4-day break before opening conference play at Tulane. And that includes the long-trip to and from Hawaii (although I'm sure the guys will love that). That includes 5 games in days in Hawaii (4 vs Hawaii and 1 vs D-2 Chaminade) plus 9 games in 12 days to close out that portion of the schedule. That assumes all games are able to be played. That will certainly test the depth of the pitching staff.

Good to see Cal State Fullerton on the home schedule for 3 games. However, that is the same weekend the Shocker softball teams hosts Oklahoma State, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota State x 2 in the Shocker Invitational. So if you like sports that involve bats, balls and gloves this is the weekend for you.

I do like that there are no 5-game weeks once AAC play starts. With the exception of the week between the Charlotte and UTSA series where the Shocks do not have a mid-week game the Shocks have mid-week games at Oklahoma State, vs Kansas State, at Kansas, at Kansas State, at Oklahoma, vs BYU, and vs ORU.

              ... No really, deuces.

Options become limited as we get away from 2 midweek games. The only time we have 2 is the two game set at Nebraska (return from last season) which is an excellent series for both schools.

I'd guess that the OU series will likely be coming to an end. SEC schools just don't schedule non con away games unless they fit perfectly into their plan.

KU, KSU and OSU I expect to continue.

As I wait patiently for the roster to be set I looked a little closer at our schedule. I think it is much easier than last year. With what coach has started to build I think 12-3 in the 1st 15 games is important.

                        McNeese St we should sweep
                        Hawaii - split
Chaminade - beat down (D2 team)
Fullerton sweep. ( they win 16 games last year) 7-23 in big West
Abilene Christian - good team but worse conference
Missouri St - 2-1 22 wins last year in MV. Finished 8th

                        We need to start hot!!

Wow college baseball is not like it used to be. Can't believe Fullerton is so down and MoSt is a bottom feeder.

Much like the crowd at Howard University on election night......I'm nauseously optimistic about our chances to start hot.

I look at the first 20 games before Tulane (which is a huge series to open conference play).

Certainly the teeth of those 20 are the last 5, 2 at Nebraska and 3 here with La Tech. I'm kind of looking at 12-8 being a baseline number from which to measure how hot the start will be.

11 out of 20 games are away from Wichita. 10 true road games and 1 semi neutral game in Arlington. That alone makes a fast start difficult.

I feel decent about our 8 fielding positions and the way we can manufacture runs, at least as of December 6, 2024. I feel good about Hamilton, Adler & Miner as quality starters and Dobbs, Anderson, Holmes, Arnett and Iverson out of the pen.

Our upside success, in my opinion, will be derived from MJ Seo, Arnad Mulamekic, Nate Langbehn & James Umbarger developing into successful pieces. If all 4 of those guys are capable of helping this team, whether in a starter role or reliever role, with the arm talent they possess, I think we'll be pretty darned good, 36-42 wins or something around there.

I think we'll be able to piece together a solid enough bullpen based on what we did last year with those above and others that have shown ability, at least in certain situations.

Looks like The Gene is getting new LED lighting and replacement of the old blue box seats. “Saw it on facebook so it must be true.”
