You simply aren't going to attract many warm weather teams to Wichita in February and March and, for some reason, it looks like Gene and Brent decided they don't want to travel to warmer climes for the 1st 45 days of the season. I for one simply don't enjoy cold weather baseball.

Nebraska Omaha? Really? I think someone got confused amid the presence of multiple Division I schools in the state now. Geesh....

Agree with @WuDrWu: that on paper this looks horrendous with little margin for error and not many opportunities for "quality" wins.

Love the "features 12 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams". CU, Ind St, Mo St, and ORU I assume.

14 games against BCS schools, 21 MVC games, 11 vs ORU, LBS, UH that's 46 the other 15 against so so teams I hope turn out some thing like Purdue did. Where is Dallas Baptist?

I believe Arizona State is off probation next year. I could be wrong though. Regardless, that is a strong program with strong players. That'll be a handful.


I agree that the rest of the schedule pretty much sucks. Looks like padding wins to cover up other things??? seems to be the most important idea of thinking now. Well, a gaudy record won't mean **** if you don't play anybody.. and that's assuming the team starts winning regularly again. Losing Nebraska sucks. They have struggled recently but I've liked the matchup. Maybe they never got over the beatdown WSU put on them last year in Lincoln.

Since the Valley fudged up with DBU 2 years ago and denied their admittance, there's a break from them this year before they join the league officially in 2014.

Well it looks like gene decided his teams can't earn an at-large so he will just pad his win total and hope the mvc sucks enought that they might win the mvc tournament.

5 games at Hawaii against Hawaii just isn't smart. They always seem to be a mediocre RPI team and hasn't worked out well for WSU there the last few years. I say they go 1-4 on that stretch. I know Hawaii is a thing for the players but couldn't they just find another California team to play while out at Long Beach?

40 home games, geesh! Does baseball RPI account for home/road games I forgot. I thought they changed it to account for it, if so why would you have so many home games? Better go 32-8 or so at home which I don't see happening.

I don't know if I can see them going 40-20 with this schedule. In the past I would have hoped for a 50-10 out of this schedule but any more I can see a 35-25 type season.

This kind of scheduling makes me think that Gene is setting himself up for life after WSU.

We are more or less guaranteed to win 40 games with this powder puff slate. 21 OOC games are against Pittsburgh, Delaware, Fordham, North Dakota, UTPA, AFA, Northwestern, and Nebraska Omaha. Out of those 8 teams, I would wager that 7 of them will have RPIs worse than 200 at season's end. This is a strength of schedule disaster.

So, in the end I expect we'll go something like 42-19 in the regular season and then get our clock cleaned in the MVC tournament as usual. Our crappy 50+ RPI and total absence of quality opponents will keep us out of the field despite a respectable w/l record.

If this is Gene's scheduling strategy for the next 2 years, he's setting himself up to sign somewhere else after his contract expires and squeezing a few extra bucks based on decent win totals in his last two seasons at the helm.

Long Beach State will give a good game...that March series ought to be a good one.

I see that the LBS 49ers are playing Vandy in Nashville in February....could be coooold baseball weather.

It can be either 50 or 30 on any given day since Nashville temps depend on whether a cold front is reaching down or not...
