SCOUTING TULANE: The Green Wave bring a 22-19 overall record to Wichita, tied with the Shockers in the American Athletic Conference standings at 7-8 after taking two of three on the road at Florida Atlantic last weekend. Tulane has already surpassed their win total from a season ago when they finished 19-42 but pulled off a stunning run to the AAC tournament championship and a bid to the NCAA tournament. The Tulane offense is built around power, with a conference-high 88 doubles and 54 home runs that rank second on the circuit. Preseason conference player of the year Teo Banks is hitting just .229 but paces the Green Wave with 10 homers and 10 doubles. On the mound, Tulane has worked to a 5.18 team ERA led by closer Jacob Moore (3-2, 1.57, four saves).

Tulane is hammering Shocker freshmen hurlers Tyler Dobbs and Brady Hamilton who have combined to give up 10 earned runs on 12 hits including 4 home runs (3 if them off of Hamilton) in 6 innings.

The Shocks Derek Williams is 3-3 and a triple shy of the cycle and Kam Durnin has homered. But not nearly enough. 1-out singles by Davyn Johnson and Derek Williams put runners on the corners with 1-out in the 5th with the Shocks trailing 8-4 but Jaden Gustafson grounded into a 4-6-3 twin killing. Hamilton then gave up back-to-back homers in the top of the 6th to make to 10-4.heading into the bottom of the 6th.

The Shocks are trying to battle back with the bats in the bottom of the 6th. A lead off double to left by Mo Millan and a single by Kam Durnin put runners on the corners. Ryan Callahan grounded out to 1st unassisted with Durnin moving to 2nd and Millan holding at 3rd. Seth Stroh delivered a 2-run single to right center forcing a Tulane pitching change. Cam Johnson flied out to right field (not what we want from him -- that will be 20 push ups). Jordan Rogers line a sharp single to left through the 5-6 hole and Seth tried to go from 1st to 3rd and was thrown at. Baserunning does not seem to be a strength of this team.

After 6 complete it is Tulane 10 - Wichita State 6.

The Shocks have a chance but they can't afford to give up any more runs. Drew Iverson is on to pitch to start the 7th inning. With a left-on-left matchup he walks the lead off batter on 5 pitches. Not exactly what you want to do. A 1-hopper to 3rd gets a force out at 2nd. The next batter lined a double on one hop off the right center wall with the runner on first looking to score but he was thrown out at the plate on a bang-bang call that was reveiwed and upheld. A ground ball to Jordan Rogers at 2nd ended the Tulane at bat with no runs scoring.

I dunno if out or safe, but both runners ought to be out on account of interference by the 3rd base coach. Absolutely ridiculous that he's 6ft away from the play at the plate.

Any reason why Favors didn’t go?

This team has headed south fast. My expectations under Green are quickly changing.

Following a lead off walk to Davyn Johnson, Derek Williams fell behind in the count 1-2 before blasting a 2-2 pitch onto the Coleman Pavillion in left center and he knew it when he hit as he stood at the plate and admired his work. Shocks have now pulled within 2 at 10-8.

Derek now 4-4 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. Both Derek and Kam Durnin are a triple away form hitting for the cycle which has not been done by Shocker in 16 years.

Mason Munz comes on to pitch to start the 8th inning. And he walks the lead off batter. Then after catching popped up bunt attempt Munz threw it into the right field bullpen trying to double up the runner at first.(ill-advised) which sent the runner on 1st moving to 3rd.

Hunter Holmes comes in to relieve Munz.

Shocks bring the infield in an a soft liner is just high enough to tip off of Kam Dunin's glove for an RBI single. Then Holmes wild pitches the runner to 2nd to take a way the double play. After a walk Holmes is done and Peyton Walters is in.

Possibly because Tulane is going with their ace in game 2 tomorrow.

I am starting to feel like I may have been “sunshine pumping” a few threads ago. Unacceptable as of late
