Tommy got the message to throw strikes. At least against a UT team that's struggling at the plate, it's worked well so far.

UT fails to turn the DP, Millan follows with a single and then Dayvin Johnson clears them with a shot to right center. 4-0 after 3.

LaPour continues to hammer the strike zone in the 4th. 6 Ks, 1 hit, no walks through 4 for the freshman. 40 pitches, 32 for strikes. Utah Tech has hit a few hard, but all but one right at someone.

I think we can live wiht that Tommy LaPour. He was LaPouring in the strikes and if he can command his slider and change he should more thans serviceable I would think.

A little surprised they pulled him after 5 innnings and only 58 pitches. Perhaps they want to ger some guys some work and pull Tommy while he was in a very positive mental state.

Not at all how I was expecting this weekend to go. But if it ends with 3-0, who am I to complain?

Bats could have been better .. but pitching was pretty dominate. Can't really complain too much. So far pretty happy with the results we've seen from Brian Green.

Pitching has been outstanding. Wasting leadoff doubles in 3 innings plus loading the bases in the 8th with no outs and going 0 for leaves a lot to be desired though.

                    ... No really, deuces.

It does but IIRC we had ball hit right on the nose in each of those situations that unfortunately found their way into a U-Tech glove. That said, we should have done better.

Kinda fun to be picking at flaws WHILE winning.

I like that they went situational with Holmes and Anderson to finish the game. Emphasis on getting the win.

This weekend perhaps a good confidence builder for the mostly young and inexperienced piching staff. We will find out a lot more about where we are after the next 10 games before starting AAC play. At Oklahoma, Long Beach x3 at home, Nebraska x2 at home, Gonzaga x3 at home and K-State at home before heading to UAB to open AAC play.

I'll take an even split of these 10 games right now and call it good.

That is true, but so far I get the feeling that this is a coaching staff that will work to try to fix any flaws.

And held on to beat Virginia.

Heck we were only 3 grand slams shy of beating Auburn, but okay, perhaps a bit too much to wish for.

Speaking of Auburn. Tommy LaPour lowered his ERA by 12.5 runs today. It is down to 10.0. That's how much damage Auburn did to Tommy.
