  • Green and Saal….

    In order for these two BFFs to start winning any trust or confidence in the fans or alumni (if it’s not too late), Saal needs to:
    -disclose who else he interviewed and if no one, explain what exactly a nationwide search means;
    -tell us what buyout we had to pay to Washington State on Green’s existing contract
    -do everything he can to get the portal players and coaches back in the fold
    -immediately get Kemnitz working the PR aspect of this disaster and reaching out to alumni (good luck, Brent)

    Green needs to:

    -both on the phone and in person, engage the portal players without Saal holding his hand
    -retain at least part of the existing staff
    -somehow get an endorsement from somebody other than Kemnitz who is part of the Stephenson legacy.

        I agree with all of that.

          I doubt WSU jad to pay the other WSU a buyout. Rather, I think it went something like this.

          Green: Hey Kevin. it's your old buddy Brian. I've got a bit of a situation. I think I'm about to get fired because my teams haven't been competitive and we're way down in the bottom of the standings. We were something like 14-1/2 games out of first place this year. Could you do an old buddy a favor,

          Saal: I'll take care of you buddy. All I have to do is fire the Coach of the Year in our conference, who all the donors to baseball love and bring you onboard. Consider itr a done deal. I'll have to announce a national search before I actually hire you.
          The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

            Wasn't Green just extended by Washington State? I thought I saw that in some link the other day.

                WaSU also has a $14M deficit this year. Getting rid of a $300+k/yr coach and replacing with $100k coach helps.

                  This sound an awful lot like Nebraska football's Smilin' Mike Riley debacle. I hope it turns out better than that one did...

                          Sorry, about three weeks late.

                          Green has done almost everything asked of him outside of exorcising portal demons from many of the top returning players. He has kept most of the 23 class, signed some really good position prospects and immediately got Gene on board. Not real excited over the pitching coach over Pelfrey but perhaps Mike will find his way back into the program in another capacity. Pitching will be a turd anyway, so we will see what the new guys are made of.
