I think Gene does more scouting and recruiting that you folks are crediting him for. There are these new fangled devices called cellular telephones that can allow coaches to easily coordinate who is out and who is not.

WSU had one of its highest (if not the highest) fielding percentages ever in 2012. The middle infield was solid, but does not have great range. Adding a rangy SS would be a bonus. Stolen bases in 2012 were down quite a bit and became a virtual non-factor by the end of the season with Hall's transition to a back-up role (BTW, his SB effectiveness dropped badly as well). Getting back to the speed game is one thing #10 wants to do and this guy looks like he might be good there.

I'm guessing he didn't play his home games on turf, so the fielding % may go up.
Well he played on turf and what ironically looks like Normal's best baseball stadium over ISUr's park.

As for WSU's fielding this last year, I was amazed when it was first pointed out here that this last year was one of the best (top 2 or 3) fielding % they've ever had. Not amazed at their performance, but amazed that this top WSU fielding % was only good enough to be tied for 4th (actually 5th if you go beyond 3 decimal places) in the Valley this year. Not sure what that says about WSU's fielding % history.

If Cody can get on base and translate his stolen base abilities to D-I baseball, that will be huge. It's one thing when your team doesn't have much power, worse when your only middle of the road in batting average, and much worse when your not a threat to steal successfully.

I remember a day when this would have not even been a blip on the radar.
although the best things in life are free, upgrades are usually available

There was a day when we wouldn't have discussed an incoming juco recruit during the off-season? Sorry, but I don't remember that day.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'
