For real this time? That's too bad, especially after he showed a lot of promise early on last season. With Hege leaving and Bayliff a big question (will he ever be healthy?), has the coaching staff back-filled those positions?

Ok ... some initial roster moves announced. The outfielder is likely Joe Haddox, a CF from Moore H.S.

              Now do your lineups. ;)

From Suellentrop on twitter: Roster moves for WSU baseball: 2b Sean Moore from DMACC is on board, joining three other summer signees: SS Cody Bobbit, P Drew Palmer and P Austin Sanders. Sanders pitched Friday afternoon in a tournament at Eck. An OF may be soon to follow. C Ryan Hege, P Kyle Bouman, OF Aaron Rea among the players not returning for 2013.

It is for real this time. He has announced on his facebook page that he is giving up baseball and is ready to move on to the next phase of his life.

Sam Hall also gone. Cheese and crackers! I suppose not too different than any program when players are faced with the decision to do battle with a talented roster for some P.T. and possibly ride the pine, or transfer just to play anywhere. I will be eager to see where some of those guys land this year and beyond.

Seems that the coaching staff is loading up on a lot JUCO players this year to supplement the young studs we have returning. Perhaps taking a page out of ol' HCGM's recruiting handbook? Someone please drop some knowledge on me on how this compares to years past...

You recruit Juco to fill holes because of losing players in the draft or bad recruiting in past years. Gene contract is about up and after 3 season of this program slipping he is running out of time and needs immediate results and he's rolling to dice to see if he shortcut the building process.

Gene did say that they would probably make changes in how they manage the roster going forward. That implied the possibility of overrecruiting but it also pretty clearly involved a more active turnover in the existing roster with performance taking precedent over loyalty to theo players.

Perhaps the 1st sign of that philosophy in action. And as @SB Shock: pointed out the clock is ticking on Gene's contract with 2 seasons remaining.

Now how well this new approach will work out remains to be seen.

So the answer to my question is that this is a relatively new approach given the need for immediate results. Thanks.
