Fever, I hate to disappoint you but our RPI after tonight's loss is 51. Even if we just split the next 2 games, we should leave Terre Huate with a top 50ish RPI.
Warren Nolan AFTER tonight's loss is predicting that WSU will finish the season with a RPI of 45. IF that really happens we would have a very good chance of being an at large team. I have been following college baseball closely for the last 40 years and I don't ever remember a northern team being left out with a RPI of 45 or better. Most of the time a RPI in the low 50s is good enough for a northern team to an at large bid.
Another thing that could help us is if the Alcorn St. game gets rained out on Wednesday.

Combine those two things and pare your list back and it looks like:
2011 - None of the schools you listed meet his criteria
2010 - Boston College (unless Kentucky is a northern state?)
2009 - No schools you listed match
2008 - Wash. St.
2007 - KSU
That's all the years I am willing to go through .. but you get the idea. Only 3 maybe 5 of those schools you listed meet his criteria. He also never said guarantee, but he did say he didn't remember any -- and his memory isn't too shabby if you listed all of them. At least through 2007. If you just gave us a small sample of counter examples then that's a different matter entirely.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

The list provided above was not some inclusive list, but a list of good teams that were overlooked and found themselves on the wrong side of the bubble.
There really are three arguments being made which are false
1. Teams with RPI's in the 40's have have good chance of being picked by NCAA as at-large - obviously that is false just with the data provided. RPI in the 40's put you on the bubble.
2. Northern team get special consideration - there is no evidence of that except occasionally the NCAA will give a host to a regional that didn't deserve it.
3. Since wsu is a northern team and their rpi might be in 40s they will get an at large.
Bottom line wsu is not getting at large bid regardless of whether their rpi is in the mid 40s. 6th place valley team team with losing records in conference do not get that luxury.Last edited by SB Shock; May 6, 2012, 10:23 AM.

It is anyone's guess where the Shocks will actually finish but they have a boat load of teams to climb over to move up and how they will finish is also anyone's guess. I think it is fair to say that this is the lowest the Shocks have been in MVC play in the Stephenson era this late in a season. Someone asked if this is rock bottom. No, not quite, but it is only a few short steps from rock bottom.
If the Shocks lose today at INS and they have shown nothing to this point to give Shocker fans any confidence that will not happen they are in real jeopardy of finishing the MVC season below 0.500. That may not be rock bottom but it will sure as heck feel like it.
That might not be so depressing if you could look ahead with great anticipation of better things to come, but I am just not seeing that right now.
Maybe if this team can steal spot in the NCAA Tournament by winning the MVC Tournament and then winning a couple of regional games then Shocker fans may feel that the program still has a little life left in it.
