ok, I didn't realize that, I do recall that this year was kind of a dry run for DBU to see how it worked out.

Regardless, hopefully all the schools agree they'd be a good member for baseball. Would be a great addition

I just assume outside of CU/MSU/WSU no one else was eager to let them join before going thru this trial. Well DBU went ahead and joined with WAC as they didn't require some odd ball lets play a few shadow seasons then make a decision.

I just don't get it, it would mean 4 home and 4 away series instead of 4/3 uneven every year. Would add what amounts to a top 50 program, in a very rich recruiting area. The biggest part though to me is that in baseball it means you have to travel just once every two years. Heck have a cookie sale, lol.
Actually I don't remember for sure, but I do seem to recall that ISU-B was the exception (to the other Illinois/Indiana schools) and was actually supportive of adding DBU.

I thought we were too, our AD is a huge baseball guy and was pretty sure he was all in favor of adding DBU

          well then I shouldn't have said ISU's

that was just an easy (lazy) way for me to say northern/eastern schools.

            I
t looks like New Mexico St and Idaho are the only football playing members left in the WAC. And the only non-football playing members left are Denver, Seattle and Boise St.

The WAC is definitely near death.
I just checked how many of the remaining members play baseball and New Mexico St. is the only one (Idaho, Denver, Seattle and Boise St. don't play baseball).

I don't see anyway DBU can join the WAC now for baseball only. A two member baseball conference would be pretty lonely.

Rumors are NMSU going to sunbelt as well but not confirmed.

I would think sunbelt is not an option for DBU. However CUSA is adding UNT to go along with TU and UTEP who do not play baseball. I could see that being a landing spot for them after last seasons success. Also the southland is adding ORU and probably New Orleans now that they are staying Division 1, both solid baseball programs so that could be a league they could join as well.

I would guess their options will be Southland, C-USA, Valley.

C-USA is usually very good each year in baseball (much better than the Valley usually is). The Southland would be easier travel for DBU. The Valley better work quickly to get DBU before these other conferences make an offer.

I'd be surprised if NMSU ends up in the Belt.

The Valley really needs to make another call to DBU. It is pretty evident from the conference rpis that having 7 of the 8 teams play 3 games against DBU this year is helping the rpis.

Rumors are New Mexico State to Sunbelt for all sports along with App State. Should happen today or tomorrow.

This means all the teams UTA, NMSU, Tex St, UTSA, La Tech which were going to be part of the WAC and in turn give DBU close travel are ALL gone.

All of Sunbelts members play baseball so no room at the inn there. Conf USA will have at least 10 baseball members I believe. So I doubt they go looking for somebody as an affiliate member. So really two choices in my opinion.

                      Southland or Valley

Is baseball the only sport DBU plays at the D-1 level?

That's they way it looked from what I could gather. Apparently, all their other sports compete in the D-II Heartland Conference (which is where Newman Unversity is currently a member).

I was a little surprised that DBU doesn't even field a women's basketball or a softball team.

Unfortunately he can't. His hands are tied. Three Valley schools oppose bringing Dallas Baptist into the conference (Creighton, Bradley and Illinois St). Unless one of those schools changes their mind, he doesn't have the 75% vote necessary to admit a new member.

If I were Elgin, I would be talking to Creighton to see if he could get them to change their mind. I think that is our best shot. Illinois St strongly opposes Dallas Baptist and I don't think Bradley cares enough about baseball to ever agree to the additional travel.

Wow what a bunch of puzzies!

How much travel cost can going to Dallas once every other year add? Honestly I'm really disappointed in CU on this one.
