  • Mike Pelfrey Likely to Undergo TJ Surgery

I know @KCShox: mentioned this in the Hottovy to KC thread but I thought it deserved it's own thread.

New York Mets right-hander Mike Pelfrey is "99 percent" certain that he will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery, he told reporters Thursday.

Hopefully, Mike will be able to come back as good or better than ever.

That is really bad news. Hopefully Mike will recover and come back even better after the surgery.

Mike is a really good guy. I wish him well and hope he is very successful after the surgery.

Mike is suppose to meet with another doctor today to get a second opinion on his elbow injury.

Mike is off to a fantastic start this season. 3-0 through 34 IP with a 2.62 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 16 K.

Happy to see the big guy finally healthy and dealing again. This is the final year of his contract with Minnesota, so it would not be understatement to say that he needed to perform well this year. So far, so good.

Keeping it rolling Mike, Shocker nation is proud of you!

              Mike enters tonight's start at Cleveland with the following numbers: 20 GS, 5-7 W-L, 3.65 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 118.1 IP, 56 K, 36 BB, 2.3 WAR

His peripherals suggest he's been a bit lucky with regards to his ERA, but overall this has been a great season for Mike. He will no doubt be looking at another decent payday if he can finish strong over the next 8 weeks. His timing for one of his best seasons (to date) could not be better.

It is a lot of fun watching former Shockers enjoy long careers, especially genuinely good folks like Mike Pelfrey.

Probably better to start a new thread rather than scare people with the idea that Pelfrey might be headed for a second surgery, assuming that's even possible. I'll take care of it.

WHIP a little high at 1.4, but he's cut down on giving up HR (from 0.7 to 0.5 HR/9) and he is giving up less walks. Hopefully he can finish strong and find a home and be that cagey veteran pitcher.
