Shox vs Houston (Series)

Jace wasn't bad until the 6th. I thought maybe HCEW stayed with him too long but he has no faith in his bullpen.
Seems like in a lot of losses the Shocks pitch pretty well for all but about two innings. Houston scored 6 of the 7 runs in the 6th and 8th innings tonight.
I'm beginning to think HCEW might want to send his guys over to Wilkins stadium for a little hitting practice and tutelage with Coach Bredbenner and Coach Economon.

Has there ever been a sports season in WSU history that you wanted to end faster than this baseball season?
Maybe last year’s basketball?
Looks like no momentum was generated at all in Memphis and was just a fluke. Can’t imagine how God awful Memphis is.
Can’t believe this is gonna be the worst season in the modern era. Butler’s worst year is amazingly gonna be topped. Wow.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Cameron Bye doesn't get out of the 4th inning as he leaves with 2 out in the 4th trailing 4-2 with all 4 runs earned on 7 hits, including 3 doubles and and a home run, plus 3 walks. Cameron has given up 13 of his 16 runs on the year in his last 2 outings covering 13 innings for and ERA of 9.00 over that span.
Caden Favors comes on in relief and gets a K to end the top of the 4th.
The Shocker offense comes to life in the bottom of the 4th with a Casserilla single and a Cornblum single followed with a Chuck Ingram home run. Brock Rodden then follows Chuck with a home run as the Shocks take a 6-4 lead. Long way to go though. Both of these home runs were frozen ropes. Chuck's especially was hit like a rocket and may have ended up across 21st street. Rodden's just did clear the fence at the left field bleacher but both of those balls left the yard in a hurry.
In the bottom of the 6th Couper Cornblum walked to lead off the inning. After Chuck Ingram swings at a ankle high 3-1 pitch and grounds out to short Brock Rodden, batting left handed after homering from the right side in his last at bat, launches one to left up in the wind and rides it out of the park for a 2-run homer. The wind helped but that ball was well hit.
Shocks head to the 7th leading 8-4. Can the bullpen make that hold up? Caden Favors back out to start he 7th.
Caden sets the Cougars down in order in the 7th. The Shocks put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out in the bottom half of the inning. Couper Cornblum fles out to center with both runners tagging. Both runners advance with Cornblum scoring and Casserilla moving to 3rd. However, Houston appeals at 2n and Casserilla is called out for leaving early. However, it appears Cornblum's run does count. Shocks lead 9-4.
Favors back out for the 8th and gives up only a 2-out infield single.
Derek Cherry and his 94 mph fastball comes in to pitch the 8th for Houston. His first 6 pitches were ball with his 2nd pitch drilling Chuck Ingram right in the middle of the back followed by a 4-pitch walk to Brock Rodden. He went to 2-2 on Sawyre Thornhill who the got on up in the wind to left that carried out of the park for the Shockers 4th home run of the games as the Shocks extend their lead to 12-4.
Cameron Holden comes on in the 9th. The Cougars go down in order and the Shocks have a nice win over the 2nd place Cougars and put an end to their 5 game winning streak.
Caden Favors with his longest outing and 1st win as a Shocker. 4.1 inning of scoreless reliefe giving up 3 hits and a walk while striking out 7.
I will give Caden Favors my player of the game. Chuck Ingram, Brock Rodden and Sawyre Thornhill combine for 10 runs batted in can share honorable mention.
I guess it was an every dog had his day kind of game for the Shocks but WTH, why not win tomorrow and take the series.

What happened on May 7, 2022 in WSU history? I'll tell ya what happened. It was the beginning of the biggest single season turn around in program history, that's what! Who knew on that day that they would eventually win the AAC conference tourney and make a deep run in to post season play!?? Nobody but Kung Wu, after smoking some peyote and gazing into the hazy future!! They can do it!!! Go Shoxxxxors!!!Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

Payton Tolle was effective today and LJ McDonough who came into releive Payton in the 3rd was worse. The pair combined to give up 8 runs (7 of them earned) on 8 hits in 2.1 innings.
Aftter 4 innings the Shocks trail 8-4.
The Shocks get a single and double and then a wild pitch to score a run in the bottom of the 5th. With 2 outs Chuck Ingram walked and then Brock Rodden doubled scoring 2 more runs making it 8-7 after 5.
The Shocker pitchers respond by walking 3 of the first 4 runners in the top of the 6th. Houston is able to score 3 with only a single, a runner moving up on an error by Ross Cadena and a ground out. So that cancels the Shocks rally and Houston is back up by 4 at 11-7.
The Shocks get a solo home run from Ross Cadena in the bottom of the 9th to make the final score 11-8 for Houstion.
A couple of bad innings by Shocker pitching does them in as Houston score 9 of their 11 runs in the 3rd and 6th innings.Last edited by 1972Shocker; May 8, 2022, 03:44 PM.
