  • Shocks vs Texas State

6:30 first pitch at Globe Life Park. WSU freshman Robert Cranz will make his debut. Senior RHP Travis Sundgren gets his first start for Texas State. Last year for TSU: 29 IP, 6.5 ERA, 22K/25BB.

Texas State took 3 out of 4 on the weekend at home against Utah Valley. Utah Valley was the sixth worst team in D1 last season according to RPI. Texas State finished last season at 225 in the RPI. Shockers need a win tonight in a bad way.

Yeah, thinking this is one we should definitely take, even if it's a road game.

Neutral site. Playing at the new Rangers stadium. About 3.5 hours from Texas State’s campus.

We have a Freshman Pitcher today. Who knows how he will react to a game (I know nothing absolutely nothing about Cranz). Upside is that our best pitching performance this year was from a Freshman Pitcher. Texas State has historically been good. Should be a game we can (maybe should) win, although in baseball, you can't always tell how a day is going to go, and often the better team doesn't win. We do need a win badly though.

The Rangers stadium will also have fences that are built for Div. 1 baseball, and MLB. La Tech had boundaries of 310 down the line, 350 in the alleys, and 380 in Center. Not Little League dimensions, but a dimensions more equal to high school baseball (although most of our high school teams have longer fences than those). Those boundaries aren't good for Pitchers and we have a lot of inexperienced pitching.

The pitchers high on my radar so far are:

                  Kaminska, Tolle, and Miner.
I thought Favors did a good job limiting the damage that he was faced with too.
Boyer recovered but had a tough first rookie inning, so we need to see more of him to see if that was just first inning jitters.

What's interesting is that's a sophomore, freshman, freshman, sophomore, and sophomore.

If our best pitchers are young, that's good and bad. Good that our future looks bright, but bad that the first half of this season is gonna be rocky -- especially considering the level of competition the young guys are facing right from the get-go.

WSU just can't win. This time the weather kicks WSU butt and steals a possibility for a win away.

They’re going to try and play tomorrow 4PM in San Marcos. Will have to get a little lucky avoiding rain.

I stayed just outside of San Marcos when we went to the Formula One race.

If anybody is staying down there ...Canyon Lake has a really cool dam you can walk/jog across with some excellent views.

And if you are looking for a really awesome and unique breakfast place, check out the Wildflour Artisan Bakery & Grill.

Looks like HCEW shaking up the starting lineup a bit. Garrett Kocis, Jack Sigrist and Ross Cadena not in the starting lineup. Jordan Rogers playing 1st and leading off. Don't see that a lot. So. Drew Miller for Neosho CC making his Shocker debut.as is RS-Fr. catcher Gage William and Fr. RHP Robert Cranz on the mound.

Whether will not be all that pleasant with 35 degree temps with 13 mph winds for a wind chill of 26. Personally, I dislike cold-weather baseball. Hard to play your best IMO. But both teams will have the same weather.
