  • Attendance reported at 1300 Friday and 1600 for the doubleheader, this correct?

    • Happy for the sweep. It's gonna be a long year but I'll definitely enjoy the wins when they come and am just happy we finally have a coaching staff that gives us hope for the future.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

      • Losing to this team would not have been a good result. WSU's only sweep last year was Bethune C. (3 gams) and CU (2 games), so this was a good result.

The pitchers I saw in the first game today all were throwing in the lower 90's. So there is at least some raw talent there. Little more offense and execution this weekend with Wedge was playing some small ball.

        • Lots of strikes thrown both week ends. Sometimes none in a timely manner. As SF said its nice to have a sweep and a staff to clean up the mental errors that seemed to plague the previous coaching staff and teams.

            What does "correct" mean?

Even yesterday it was tough to be outside unless you were in Box 10+, outfield or inside. Everything above field box was roped off for snow, ice, wet etc. Maybe 2/3 of that number in attendance, which is pretty special considering the weather.

All 3 starters were solid if not excellent. Foster Gifford has been effective and Peters was nasty yesterday. Stumpy has been really good and Bechtel was mostly efficient yesterday. Low 90s now, early, in the cold, is very, very encouraging. There are no PCMPs on this team, but if Snavely is going to pitch like that and he's your #3, and 6 pitchers are under 3.00 ERA (and 6 are under 1.95 ERA right now) then we could be ok. And that's with one of our strongest arms, Haase, struggling and our 2 liveliest freshmen arms currently on the mend.

Small ball is mostly where it's going to be for this team. 10-11 SBs so far and Cadena has thrown out 2 of 3 which speaks to many things...lack of baserunners, pitchers doing a good job keeping guys close and of course Cadena doing his job.

Yes, small sample size and questionable competition (still Texas Southern has been to the tourney 4 more times than us in the last decade) but the trend is good imho.

Who are the TWO liveliest freshman arms currently on the mend? I have not seen Hansen, Leonards or Wilson yet.

                    • Wilson and Hansen. Both are currently on the shelf. Hansen would appear to be the more likely to see action. Both could have been midweek starters.

It took me longer than I would like to admit, but I finally figured it out. :)

                          • Having now equaled the 2019 sweep total, hopefully we find our way to a couple more this year. Texas Southern is likely to be among if not the weakest team we face for a full series, but there are certainly opportunities throughout the schedule.

                            • We need to make hay over the next 7 games (hopefully we'll get in at least one Tuesday and or Wednesday) because March looks brutal.

March 6 La Tech comes to town for 3. They have 2 wins over ranked over ULL. Then it's Nebraska for 4. The Huskers beat us in the fall and can really hit. Then a mid week against always tough (for us at least) ORU, then at Houston for 3, @ ranked OSU in a midweek, then home for probably ranked Tulane, then to Florida for definitely ranked UCF, midweek ranked OSU then at always tough Creighton who does appear to be down a bit then a midweek at ranked OU before the schedule eases a bit. That's 23 games, with no gimmies, and potentially half against teams ranked at some point during the season.

                              • Garrett Kocis Garners American Weekly Honor Roll Accolades

Kocis, a junior from Omaha, Neb., batted .364 with four hits in 11 at bats, including a double, triple and homer, going along with eight RBI, two runs scored and only one strikeout in the Shockers' three-game series sweep of Texas Southern Feb. 21-22.

He added a .909 slugging and .417 on-base percentage for the week.

In Saturday's 9-1 win over the Tigers in game two of a doubleheader, he went a career-best 3-for-4 and fell a single shy of hitting for the cycle, hitting a double, triple and home run while driving in a career-high six RBI. The six RBI were the most in a single game since Alec Bohm drove in six at ECU in 2018.
