The interesting thing was the Shockers played Creighton 8 times that year. A 4-game regular season Valley series, 2 games in the Valley Tournament and the two games in the CWS. That was a pretty decent Creighton team but he Shockers won all 8 of those games. In fact, the 3-2 win preserved by The Throw was the only close game of the 8, The average score of the other 7 Shocker wins was 11.57 - 2.57.

Did Gene ever have a season with an .867 W/L %? Did Wedge set a record in his first year coaching? Might need an asteriosk on this one.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

However, the all-time season winning percentage record belongs to Lamar Hoover who had back-to-back undefeated seasons in 1918 and 1919. The Shocks were 1-0 in each of those two World War I era seasons.

Okay so maybe Coach Hoover's record deserves an asterisk as well.

I can watch that play a million times and not get tired of it. You know it is a hell of a play when it's simple called "The Throw" and very Shocker fan knows what you are talking about.

Conversely, it’s the single most painful play in Creighton sports history. To say the Jays were “pretty decent” is an understatement; they finished third nationally and beat #1 Clemson in the CWS. They literally could’ve beaten any team except the Shockers, who owned them. Hat tip to Wichita State for making The Throw and beating Creighton twice in that environment.

Really wish we could find a full game replay of this game.
