Ritter Named Finalist for Senior CLASS Award

Wichita State University senior infielder Luke Ritter has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award which honors student-athletes who excel both on and off the field.

A native of Overland Park, Kan., Ritter was a first team all-conference honoree in The American last season, and has been named to the conference's weekly honor roll three times so far this season.

He currently leads the Shockers and ranks second in The American with a .398 batting average, and has 49 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 28 RBIs, 19 walks and nine stolen bases.

Ritter is riding a 44-game reached base safely streak entering Wednesday's contest against Oklahoma State, having reached base in all 32 games this season, in addition to the final 12 contests in 2018.

In the latest NCAA Division I national statistics, he ranks 16th in total bases (85), 20th in hits, 23rd in on-base percentage (.513), 29th in slugging percentage (.691) and 32nd in batting average.

Ritter has a 3.24 cumulative grade-point average as a finance major.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced in March. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through June 10. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. This year's Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 College World Series® in June.
