  • 2019 Gm #4 vs Pepperdine

WSU plays Pepperdine for the last game on this road trip. Pepperdine won the West Coast Conference regular season but lost in their tournament (so no post season play). Another good opponent that is a tough opponent on your good days, but give them charity, they will smash you. They have started the season off 2-0.

Pepperdine has beat Cal State - Bakersfield 11-0 and California 7-5.

Shocks have gotten one good start (Snavely), one good albeit adventurous short relief appearance (Segal) and one very good long relief appearance (Eddy) in the first 3 games.

Hopefully, Tommy Barnhouse has a good start in him today. Eddy flat out saved the Shocker bullpen with his effort last night so we should have plenty of fresh arms if needed. How effective they will remains to be seen. Would be nice to get 5 or 6 innings out of Barnhouse.

Shocks are one game deeper into their pitching than is Pepperdine which should give the Waves a bit of an advantage. But a really good start from Barnhouse and elimination of some of the charity (22 walks, 1 hit batter and 8 errors in 3 games) can overcome that. By comparison Grand Canyon walked 6, hit 5 batters and made only 1 error in the 3 games against them. So that's 31 gift by the Shocks vs 12 by their opponents in the first 3 games.

Shockers trying to win one for the Shaner today.

Luke Ritter reaches on a throwing error by the Waves' 3B and adances to second and then moves to 3rd on a wild pitch with 1 out. Jacob Katzfey delivers the game's 1st run with a single to right center.

Ross Cadena hit by a pitch and Mason O'Brien walks to load the bases. The Shock need to cash in on the charity.

Noah Croft delivers a run on a fiedder' choice ground out. At least he made contact and on an 0-2 pitch no less. Brady Slavens grounds out to 2nd to end the inning.

Shocks up 2-0 mostly because of Pepperdine's charity but we'll take and thank you very much.

Their starter had to throw 20-24 pitches that inning.

The balk with 2 outs and man on first didn't hurt. 2-0 Shocks going to the 2nd.

Good opening inning for Tommy striking out the lead off batter on a full count and inducing a 5-3 ground out to end the inning after a 2-out single and balk put a runner in scoring position.

Jordan Boyer walks to lead off the 2nd. Shouldn't 9-hole hitter Jack Sigrist bunt him over for the top of the lineup?

No need. A wild pitch advances Jordan to 22n. Then Sigrist hit by a ptich on a full count. Will Alex Jackson try to bunt them over?

Alex fell behind in the count 0-2. Worked the count full and then flied to CF with nor advance by the runners. Do not know if he tried to bunt or not.

Boyer it advances to 3rd on Sac Fly by Luke with Katzfey at bat and a 1-2 count is caught off 3rd and is out P to SS to C. Not sure what happened there.

Alex's failure to advance the runners cost the Shockers a run as Butler's teams continue to struggle with the little things.

If you say the team fundamentally sucks, you're just a hater.

Nothing bad there, weird hop and play, just unfortunate. Tommy in trouble with 2 seeing eye singles and then a complete blunder on a sacrifice. Damn it

Stanford chatter was annoying last night, Pepperdine chatter in full on mentally handicapped. I may throw a bat at them.. 3 excuse me hits and it’s tied.
