The Gold won big to clinch the series. They're still playing the last two games though. Game six of the series will take place at 7 p.m. tonight with game seven at 3 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 14.

Here are your series stats ...

Note that our prospective shortstops made 9 errors in 5 games.

The combined to hit 0.175 over the 1st five games as well. Perhaps we are seeing why Gene steadfastly stuck with Tyler Grimes last year.

At third Sam Hall has hit 0.294 but made 3 errors in only 10 chances while Aaron Rea was error-free in 12 chances but has only hit 0.211

The candidates to replace Obey-One at catcher haven't exactly lit it up either -- Arens (0.154), Chadd (0.154), Hege (0.150) and Baker (0.050) -- and none of them look like they are exceptional defensively. The drop off in production at catcher could be scary.

It was good to see that Casey Gillaspie went yard. OTOH, that was on the 2nd homer of the series with Johnny Coy getting the other one.

Kevin Hall has been ouststanding and Don Lambert has been solid. However, Micah Green (0.150) has struggled at the plate.

One oddity in the stats is the Gold pitchers struck out 32 while walking 31 while the losing Black squad's staff struckout 50 and walked only 13.

Several of the young pitchers look promising.

Just something that stands out to me ... the amounts of total BB's and SO's for each pitching staff. And this isnt a rag on any of the players but also, for the first time since i was a young'n, I just don't recognize many of the players names/faces. Maybe thats because a lot of the players are fairly unproven in their careers, but just something pine over.

In last night's game, Tyler Baker went 3 for 3 with a double and a triple and 2 RBI.

He also made another beautiful snare of a hard hit ground ball -- this time laying out to his backhand side behind the bag (KHall was running so it ended up being an infield single). He also made a nice charging short-hop pickup on a bunt and gunned the guy at first.

Of the new guys I've seen he has the best glove, arm and instincts. I don't know if they're considering him for SS, but he certainly seems more like a middle infielder to me in terms of size, quickness and hands. (I'm guessing he hasn't played SS much as that gun has kept him at C/3B/P.)

Hopefully he can make the adjustments he needs to get the bat going in the Spring.

(An aside: The PA played Adam Sandler's "Chanukah Song" every time Jordan Hanika came to bat. Get it?)

Thanks for the eye-witness report Wuzee. I was in the middle of composing a post on a new thread about this game when you posted this or I would have just posted here.

Tyler Baker is an intriguing kid especially if he proves he can hit a little.
