  • Gillaspies first ML home run - unique

Commentators said "He's not even smiling!"

I don't think I ever saw Conor smile once while he was at WSU.

I'm completely jealous of my wife. She's out in SF right now for work, but she passed on the chance to go to the game last night. After I told her about it this morning, she's kicking herself!

I'm pretty sure he is not smiling because he fell down around third. That was pretty funny, and a great story to tell in later years on your first MLB homerun.

          Poker face

Very entertaining -- and maybe 30-40 years from now when he tells his grandkids about it, even Conor will finally be able to laugh about it. Meanwhile, it's definitely a unique first big-league HR.

Also thought this was interesting: "Gillaspie, who played briefly with the Giants in 2008, is the first Giants player to hit an inside-the-park homer for his first big league home run since Dax Jones did so on Aug. 18, 1996, in Philadelphia." As longtime Shocker fans will remember, Dax Jones played his college ball for non-rival Creighton.

Way to go Conor. Still Mr. Intensity.

Damn, you hit a ball that hard and that far you deserve a home run.

Wow, what a dramatic way to get your first HR.

Way to go, Conor! That was exciting!

Looks like Conor is impressing the coaches:

He still doesn't wear batting gloves.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

                    That was cool!
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Thanks for posting the links. The HR was cool and so is his being a "hot prospect" for making next year's team.

I am glad to see Conor doing well. I hope he has a long major league career ahead of him.

Found it! This thread was actually Conor's first home run, all be it a very unorthodox one.

It is still kind of exciting to watch it.

Thanks for posting that - ESPN had not updated his career stats when I looked after his HR tonight.

In a sense, you're both right. Thanks
