  • Keeping up with the Halls

Per Sully, Shox will add Billy Hall (student assistant) and Brandon Hall (volunteer assistant) to the coaching staff this season.

I especially love having Billy, a 14-year pro, on the staff. He should be great with the kids. Guy played more than 900 games in his pro career.

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

That's great to hear. Billy grew up in the same neighborhood as me. He's a good guy and man was he fast! He'll do a great job for the staff and the athletes.

I thought that I remembered that Billy Hall was from North High School. Suellentrop said Northwest. Help me out. Is my memory failing me?

While they're at it they might as well add Sam Hall as player/coach and Carl Hall as honorary coach.

Billy and all of the African-American kids around the 13th and Oliver area were bused to NW.

I played ball at NW back in mid-90's and went into Sluggers one night to hit and there was Billy working in one of the cages. He saw my cap and struck up a conversation. Then he had me hop in the cage and gave me about a 30 min coaching session. I never did become much of a hitter but I always thought it was cool of him to take the time...I think he was in triple A at the time.

Adding Billy Hall may be the best thing that has happened to this program in a long time. He worked Gene's week long camp this summer, and was a big hit with all the kids. He has a huge personality, knows the game inside and out, but more importantly, in my opinion brings a much needed shot af adrenaline that the program, and the coaching staff definately need. While continuity in a program (regarding coaches, philosophies, etc) is usually a great thing, the downside is that things can get stale. I think Billy changes that immediately.
The players will relate well to him, and he obviously brings instant credibility, being a local kid who played for WSU, in Omaha, and in the pros for a long time. Good move Gene!
