    WICHITA, Kan. ? Wichita State baseball student-athlete Chris O'Brien has been named one of three finalists for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John's Pizza.

    What does everyone think his chances are on this? His average is far and away the best but obviusly the other two had a lot more dingers. I wonder how he rates defensively up against these guys and if they caught as many games as OB.

      I don't think Chris's numbers in throwing out base stealers were great but personally I think this stat is more reflective of how well your pitching staff holds runners than it is about the catcher.

      We do know that Chris calls his own game and is a key factor in handling the pitching staff which I think he has done well with.

      I don't know if these other two finalists call their own games or not. If not, that is a big plus for Chris IMHO (which I realize means very little).

      I think Chris has a decent shot. Since the JB award was given birth by the Wichita Sports Commission it would be great if a Shocker won it.

      In any case, Chris has had a great year and is well deserving to be among the 3 finalist. We're certainly pulling for Chris on this one.

      I'm sure Charlie O is a proud Papa also as he should be.
