  • Shockers of Summer

Summer ball is starting. The Topeka Golden Giants were suppose to play tonight. I had planned on going to the game, but heavy rains came in late this afternoon and I am sure they were rained out.

At least three Shockers will be playing for Shocker John Teutan's Topeka team this year: Zach Berringer, Foster Vielock and Dayne Parker.

The roster is set and the Topeka Golden Giants are ready to play ball, opening their seventh season of summer baseball this week. The Golden Giants get under way at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the Was…

I thought I would start a topic where fans can post summer ball stories and news on Shocker players. :wsu_posters:

The El Dorado Broncos have also started play. Four Shockers are on their roster this year: Kris Gardner, Chance Sossaman, OB, and Josh Halbert.

They play at Haysville this Sunday and will play at Derby on Thursday, June 9.

I have also heard that Cale Elam, Tyler Grimes, Micah Green and Josh Smith are playing for the Liberal Bee Jays. Former Shocker Cameron Maldonaldo is also playing for the BeeJays.

The BeeJays will be playing at Haysville on June 17, 18 and 19.

There are 3 Shockers playing for the Haysville Heat this year: Grant Muncrief, Walker Davidson and Drew Rainey. So those would be good games to attend, you could catch a lot of Shockers in each game.

While there are no Shockers on this years Derby Twins team, the team is being coached by current WSU Volunteer coach Jeff Chisty and the assistant coach is former Shocker Billy Hall.

Another local team with lots of Shockers on it is the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs.

Tyler Coughenour, Bob Arens, Zach Stucky, and Dillon Kerans all play for VC.

VC plays at home on Friday. They play at Derby on Sunday and at Haysville on Monday.

But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

I was able to break away and get to the Eldorado vs. Valley Center game last evening. Valley Center won with 4 of the 5 Shocker freshman performing very well for them. The 5th Shocker freshman was Halbert who played well for Eldorado.
              1. Coughenour was solid at 2nd with a spectacular play late on a diving catch on a flare into short center field.
              2. Stucky was very solid in CF and seems to be very comfortable there, he made several catches that were tough.
              3. Arens was very good behind the dish and threw out a runner or two on steal attempts.
              4. Kerans started the game and threw 4 hitless/scoreless innings. He appeared to be very much in command and performed very well.

              5. The lone hit for Eldorado was a 2 run homer by Josh Halbert in the 5th. Halbert also played shortstop and exhibited some very good range on
getting to a well struck ball up the middle.

Don Lambert was the DH for Eldorado and struck out a time or 2, and reached on either an error/FC/BB the other times?

Thanks for the report. It sounds like some pretty solid outings by the Shocker frosh.

Wuzee, would you add Don Lambert to the El Dorado Broncos on your list of summer assingments.

This is where the Shockers announced Don would be playing and while he is not listed on the Broncos roster he is in their stats.

Don is off to a good start going 7-16 (0.438) plus 4 walks although he has also struck out 7 times so it has been kind of all-or-nothing for him to start the summer.

Josh Halbert is off to a good start also going 8-22 (0.364). However, he needs to improve in his 5-1 K/BB ratio which I think he probably will.

Aaron Rea (our Juco transfer from Cowley County), OTOH, is off to a slow start hitting only 0.182 on 4-22 and striking out 7 times while only walking once.

Kris Gardner has pitched 3 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits. Not much to go on there. Has not walked anyone.

Chris O'Brien has not played for the Broncos yet. Not sure if there is a message there or not. He did catch all but 1 game for the Shocks so he probably needed a lttle break but I'm expecting Chris will sign a pro contract.

Chance Sossamon is also on the Broncos roster but has not pitched yet. Chance being drafted in the 21st round gives him something to definitely think about. Not sure if that is a factor in him not having pitched or not.

COB not potentially playing makes sense, what could he do to help his signing money? not much if anything.

Sossamon on the other hand you would think could do a few things this summer to help improve his signing money.

Well after reading the post directly above mine about Chance, then nevermind.

Isn't that why they drafted him. It's the one thing he can do without making an error.

                            :)

This is precisely the kind of stuff that seems to haunt our program more than others. Drives me nuts.
