UCF started the year 1-3 but has won 8 straight games. FYI, all three losses were one run games. Regardless of what happens tonight, if the Knights take care of business this weekend against 0-11 Siena, they should crack the top 25 next week.

Middle Tennessee State 7 Memphis 6 at MTSU

USF travels to Jacksonville and gets beat 4-2.

Some scores last week and this:

Memphis lost 2 of 3 games to Little Rock, then dropped a tough 5-4 decision at #5 Auburn midweek, then at North Florida tonight. The Tigers are 6-12.

ECU took 3 from the Loren Hibbs led 49ers of UNCC. ECU then was shut out by a suddenly white hot VCU team on Tuesday and beat a very average Elon club 1-0 on Wednesday and shut out a decent Maryland team tonight in the first of 3 against the Terps in Greenville. ECU is 14-4 and ranked #17.

UCONN lost 2 games to the Citadel by identical scores of 4-2 and won the middle game 17-3. They beat a really good Coastal Carolina team in a slugfest 12-10 midweek and opened up this weekend losing to St Johns, a team that looked really good until dropping 3 at ku. UCONN is 7-7

UCF swept Sienna 1-0, 2-0, 10-8. Surprisingly close considering Sienna is 0-14. ZERO and 14. They beat Bradley on Tuesday 6-5 in 13 (on the game recap, next to weather, it says "Bradley brought the cold" lol) and then lost at home to Miami 4-3. They opened the first of 3 against Chicago State winning 10-0. I bet they sweep. The Knights are 15-4, have 6 shutouts, and are ranked from 21-24 depending on the poll.

Cincy lost 3 tough games at home to Tennessee. Wright State (who by comparison took 2 of 3 from UTA) then beat the Bearcats 14-8 midweek. Cincy hosts a pretty bad Toledo club for three this weekend, winning the first game tonight 5-4. Bearcats are 8-9 against decent competition.

South Florida swept Central Michigan 3 games in Tampa. On Tuesday the Bulls beat Florida Gulf Coast 10-3, Jacksonville 6-1 on Wednesday and have 3 against Army this weekend, winning the opener 12-0. USF is 13-6.

Houston took 2 of 3 from San Diego in Houston, dropped a 7-6 decision at McNeese State midweek then shutout a pesky New Mexico squad 1-0 tonight. The Cougars are 9-8 against a challenging schedule.

Tulane took 2 of 3 from Purdue. Midweek they lost to a good Louisiana team 5-2, then were drilled by a ranked Southern Miss team 12-3. Tulane is 8-10 against a decent schedule.

McNeese State has won 3 straight. Omaha continues to struggle at 4-12 losing at ku 8-6. UTA has won 3 straight impressive wins against TA&M, Minnesota and Georgia State since leaving Wichita. Nebraska is 4-2 averaging 11 runs a game since their miracle salvaging of game 3 at the Eck. Oru is up and down at 9-6 (went 1-2 at ranked DBU) and Missouri is 14-4 after dropping their weekend opener at LSU 4-2.

                      Wrapping up the weekend:

Cincy took 2 of 3 at home from Toledo.

UCONN rebounded from Friday's beat down to take the series from a good St John's team, winning Saturday 1-0 and 3-1 Sunday.

Memphis salvaged the 3rd game today at North Florida.

UCF outscored Chicago State 38-1 in their sweep.

ECU struggled (by comparison lol) with Maryland only outscoring them 26-4 in the sweep.

USF combined 22-6 over Army in the sweep.

                      Houston took 2 from Columbia 4-3 & 6-2.

Tulane managed to get 1 of 3 at LBSU.

Weekend record for the conference 18-7, 7 shutouts by AAC pitching and 3 more games where they gave up only 1 run.

                      Current standings:
                      UCF 0-0 17-4
                      ECU 0-0 16-4
                      Wichita State 0-0 13-4
                      USF 0-0 15-6
                      Houston 0-0 11-8
                      UConn 0-0 9-7
                      Cincinnati 0-0 9-10
                      Tulane 0-0 9-12
                      Memphis 0-0 7-13

Who will we face on Fridays in the ACC? Here's just one ace........

South Florida will trot out left hander Shane McClanahan. The redshirt sophomore was a 1st team Freshman All America last year and has gotten even better this season. He's 3-1 in 5 starts, giving up a measly 12 hits (11 singles and a double lol) in 30+ innings. Opponents are batting .118 and he's given up exactly ZERO earned runs this season. He combined with Carson Ragsdale to no hit Army over the weekend. Shane is in the top 10 of any draft projections for 2018.

I notice he is 6'1", meaning he was eligible to play at WSU. Looks like we missed on this guy.

Saw him pitch in the loss they took against Fordham earlier this year. He can sling it, that's for sure. They didn't have the bats that night to back him up. He'll be a tough out on Fridays in league play though.

Tulane, who has win the last 4 meetings with LSU, leads the Tigers 4-1 after 3.

Out of curiosity, I looked up Warren Nolan's predictor a little while ago, and he has the Shocks finishing the regular season at 18-6 in the league (t-3rd behind Central Florida and East Carolina), 44-11 overall, and with an RPI rank of 22nd.

Hope he's right, although I'll believe it when I see it. It's hard to imagine these days that there would have been a time when such records wouldn't have generated much excitement among the Shocker faithful, but if they manage to do that this year I'll be delighted and willing to credit Butler and his program for finally being on the right track.
