In case you haven't been paying attention, we've stepped up a few classes in competition.

In horse racing terms, we've gone from 25k Claimers to Stakes racing.

UCF and USF took down ACC Coastal Division 1 and 2, Virginia and North Carolina on day 1. Solid.

UCONN dropped a 7-3 decision to Kennesaw State then beat Sun Belt also ran Georgia State 10-1.

ECU has taken the first 2 from Western Carolina 8-3 and 8-2.

Tulane has taken 2 one run games from Wright State.

Cincinnati picked up a nice 3-1 over PAC12 preseason #5 California.

Memphis shut out Western Kentucky 4-0 (picked last conference USA)

Houston had a head scratching 3-2 loss to Holy Cross before evening that series with 8-1 win yesterday.

UCF dropped a 1 run game to Rice and USF lost the 2nd game to UNC 12-5.

UCONN defeats Georgia Tech, starting the season 2-1.

    Nice sweep by Wichita!

Very nice win. USF scored 7 to tie UNC but lost the rubber game 9-8 in 10. Their pitching sucks too I guess.

        Midweek and Friday results:

USF drops a 5-2 decision at #5 Florida State. Memphis loses 8-6 at #9 Ole Miss. UCF drops a tough 1-0 decision at Stetson.

        ECU beat Campbell 7-2.

Cincy drops a doubleheader at Sam Houston State 5-3, 3-2.

ECU takes the first of 3 at #6 UNC 2-1. Pirates are 5-0 and if they win one of the other 2 this weekend in Chapel Hill will certainly be ranked next week. May be ranked anyway.

Tulane at Ole Miss in a rain delay and I don't know when they are going to get that one in. Rain in the forecast all weekend.

After battling the #9 team in the country, Memphis turns around and loses at home to Eastern Illinois 3-1.

UCF at home shuts out Savannah State 4-0.

USF dropped a home game to Fordham (who lost to Evansville in their opener 9-8) 2-0.

#24 Houston locked in a battle at #22 Cal State Fullerton 1-1 in extras.

ECU looks the part at 5-0. Houston will be really good. UCF and USF seem to be struggling a bit. UCONN has a great #1. Memphis looks weak. Cincy looks a little better than expected. Tulane is 3-0. Winning games in this conference is going to be tough.

ECU drops a 5-4 game to #6 North Carolina today at a neutral-site in Durham, NC.

UConn takes a doubleheader from SE Louisiana, 6-4 and 7-6.

Cincinnati gets swept at Sam Houston St, 10-6 was the score today.

Memphis drops the second in a row to Eastern Illinois, 10-9.

Tulane drops two games at #9 Ole Miss today, 5-4 and 9-1.

          Houston gets a 9-4 win over #22 CS-Fullerton.

          USF beats Fordham 3-2.

          UCF 6-0 over Savannah St.

ECU thumps UNC in Chapel Hill and should be ranked tomorrow at 6-2 and taking 2 of 3 against the #6 Tarheels.

Houston takes 2 of 3 at Cal State Fullerton and should move up the rankings as well. Their only loss was a 2-1 15 inning marathon Friday when they only gave up TWO freaking hits in 14 1/3 innings. TWO.

UCF sweeps Savannah State and should be ranked.

Depending on which poll you look at, there are four teams from the American that are ranked- UConn, USF, UCF and ECU (or were ranked in one of the past two weeks). USF's loss to Florida State last week was a come-from-behind win for the 'Noles who scored a few runs in the 8th inning to beat the Bulls.

I know it's going to be tough-sledding, but at least I can look myself in the mirror after tough games in this conference (assuming they're not embarrassing).

Our conference mates were 8-0 in midweek games before today.

#7 Kentucky whacked #24 Houston today in Houston, 14-2. 2-6 Pepperdine, fresh off a 15-2 beating at the hands of Campbell, goes into Greenville and beats #13 ECU 12-2.

Even good teams have off days folks.

Cincy over a really bad UT Martin team 6-1. UCONN over a competitive North Florida squad 5-4, and it was in Florida.. Road wins are good. USF thrashed Columbia, as they should, 13-1.

UCF with 4 in the 9th (including a walk off 3 run HR) to complete a 6-3 comeback win over Wagner.

Memphis with a 6-4 road win at Middle Tennessee. Fullerton picks up their 2nd win of the year against 7 losses, 9-3 at Tulane.

McNeese State beat Mississippi State midweek then lost a tough 1-0 game to a solid UTSA team tonight. Omaha lost at Kansas then beat Ohio tonight.

Just looked at Texas Tech. Impressive numbers so far. 12-0. Team ERA of 1.75. 3 shutouts in a row. Hitting .325 while opponents are hitting .154 Strong club.

Saturday's results were less than impressive.

Cincinnati split a doubleheader with a bad UT-Martin team, winning 4-3 then dropping the nightcap 7-5 in 11 innings.

Memphis lost a tough one at Tennessee 2-1.

UCF needed an 8 run 8th to beat Wagner 10-8 after trailing 8-0 at one point.

#24 Houston lost a tough one at previously ranked (and McNeese State victim) Mississippi State 3-2 in 12.

Tulane was beaten by Fullerton again at home 9-6.

UCONN gave up 5 in the 1st, battled back but lost 6-5 at North Florida to even that series 1-1. UCONN is ranked 24th in one poll.

#18 ECU lost at home to Missouri State. The Bears should be really good again this season, but are off to a 5-3 start against marginal competition.

USF split a doubleheader with Columbia, losing early 4-3 and winning the nightcap 8-0. Shouldn't ever lose to Columbia.

It is still early, but there are only 2 teams in the AAC with an RPI under 100 (us and UConn). It will be interesting to see how that changes as the year progresses, but right now, on paper, the MVC is a much better conference than the AAC in baseball. The MVC has 2 teams in the top 20 in RPI, 3 teams in the top 100, and only one team over 200. MVC is the 6th ranked conference, AAC is 13th.

Shox re-entered the Top 25 (collegiatebaseball.com), but realizing I can't be quick to discount it when we're not ranked and praise it when we are. It is what it is. Alec Bohm also recognized as a player-of-the-week by the same publication.

UCF, UConn, Shox, ECU, and Houston all in the mix.... USF not far behind. Love it.

Using RPI after 9 games is laughable.

I agree, and that's why I included comments like "It is still early", "It will be interesting to see how that changes as the year progresses", and "on paper".

The point is, the AAC is probably starting out a little slower than expected and the MVC is probably doing a bit better than expected after the first few weeks of the season (basically 15% of the season completed).

This is like using RPI after 3-4 games in basketball, given the reduced level of connectivity caused by 3-game series.

I agree, sorry if the post is distracting. I was just building off of WuDrWu's statement that the AAC had a less than impressive weekend. It was just an observation.
